Congrats on your horsey baby OP Grin

CaveMum · 29/05/2011 23:11

They have a habit of dropping them when no one is around! I used to work on a racing stud and we had to take it in turns doing the night shift. Many a night I spent pacing the barn watching for the slightest sign of labour!

Congrats to you and mum!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/05/2011 23:11

Its fine, full term! The old slapper enjoyed herself so much with the stallion, she bluffed it and went back for another go the following month! She was already pregnant!!

Awwwwwww bless!!! Congratulations!

Any chance of some pictures?

AgentZigzag · 29/05/2011 23:13

What's the etiquette with these situations, how/when do you inform the stallions owners of the event? If you do at all.

AgentZigzag · 29/05/2011 23:14

And will it mean a lot to them? Not just in how good their stallion is terms IYSWIM?

ChippingIn · 29/05/2011 23:14

Good on the little slapper Grin

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/05/2011 23:15

Its a welsh mountain pony. First foal, but she was fully vetted before hand to check she was healthy and suitable. I dont have any photos yet, I was so stunned, that i forgot. She hadnt moved to her foaling paddock yet, so we have had a mad scramble with the trailer in the dusk to move them!! I had everything planned like a military operation! Confused
It all went out the window!

Typical!!! I can't wait for the photos :)

Vallhala · 29/05/2011 23:16

Is baby foal going to stay with you? For riding or what? C'mon, I'm nosey and want to know all the details!

I know sod all about horses so am anxious to learn.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/05/2011 23:16

It wont mean much to the stallions owners, they just farm him out to do the business!
Will post photos tomorrow.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/05/2011 23:18

He will be staying for a good while. My daughter is going to break him in as a riding pony when he is 3 or 4. He will have to have his nuts off before then though!

In Thoroughbred breeding you notify the stud farm which stands the stallion and Weatherbys to register the foal. They carry out DNA checks to make sure you have given the correct parentage - to stop people claiming a foal is by a more expensive stallion - and then issue a passport.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/05/2011 23:21

He is sooo cute, he is dun, (fawn with black legs, mane and tail) and has white speckly patches on his back and a big white face. Unfortunately, when he moults, he will be grey underneath and will eventually go white!

ratspeaker · 30/05/2011 12:03

Awww bless
He looks like he's wearing a Skelator mask!

There must a coven of secret cat feeders
We put the cat on a diet on vets advice, well actually restricted his food amounts
He comes home smelling of tuna, which we dont feed him
He also has had several collars removed
And had diarrheoa which we suspect was the result of being given milk ( he didn't always make it to the litter box )

FriggFRIGG · 30/05/2011 12:23

Awhhhhhh! Smile

does he have a name yet??!!

sprinkles77 · 30/05/2011 12:28
