After MNers' positive and insightful recommendations re MistressPloppys house options, may I indulge you one more time to please help me out here?

We are about to buy our first house and due to limited funds, we have 90% settled on this;

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/new-homes/property-31870139.html?premiumA=true

It's not a forever home. We are happy to live here for a few years until we are able to afford our dream home. It's a much better alternative to paying rent in excess of 2k a month.

I like it because its new, modern, and we have a blank canvass to decorate. There are young families there, a lovely playground, good schools and beautiful views of the golf course and equestrian center.

However, I am having second thoughts because I have not lived in a "development" before and I am worried about what the area may become 3 or 4 years down the line.

  • Is it a good investment?
  • Will the value be preserved in years to come?
  • Is there a risk of the development becoming like an "estate"?
  • Will it be quick to sell, years down the line, if we decide to move or find our forever home?

I would be very grateful if you could kindly offer pros and cons for this house.

Thank you.

I worded it wrong.

Of course 500GBP isn´t a lot at the areas OP is looking at.

But lots(?) of us could never afford a house anything like the one that OP is off to view-in any area.

Maybe just be, but comes across as boasting tbh.

Exactly Purepurple, if anyone should be pissed off it should be the op- what a waste of money!

It did smack a wee bit of my diamond shoes are too tight but oh well, I've got used to it on MN.

I am not sre why people are Shock at the op spending 500k on a house. That is her budget, so what. Some people are able to spend a lot more than I can afford and others a lot less. Our house was in that region to buy and it is not my forever house either! Shock

I prefer the second house op. Good advice from those who know the area. I like Lynette Scavos link but I know nothing about the area. House looks great though. Good Luck! Smile

it's the fact she said she had a 'limited budget' that got me. I live in an expensive town in the SE and even there, 500k is not a 'limited budget' by any stretch of the imagination, let alone 670k.

activate they're not basic 3 bedroom houses. They are nice big houses and beyond many people's means, irregardless of what area they live in. I actually thought this was a joke thread when I saw the line about limited funds. I wasn't pissed off though as I'm not a jealous person.

This is London NW7. It has to be location first ie schools NOW. Find the good schools, check catchment criteria, draw lines around desired areas allowing for areas to get smaller. Drive the areas. Find streets you like. Only property within lines gets included. You may think having a play area close in important but realistically, is it?

And in this area where character properties are highly valued that new build would have dropped like a stone.
