To want to scream at people "she is 2!"

AAAAhhhh just want to rant really.
I have 3 dc, dd1 is 6 and has been big for her age since she was born. She was 6 this month and wears age 9 clothes. Is tall and slim and beautiful.
Ds is 3 and slightly under for weight and height but catching up.
dd2 is tiny. She has not really grown much since birth.8.15lbs.
All medical problems ruled out, she is just petite. She however rules my 3 dc and is full of character and a complete dare devil.
She has just gone into 9-12 month clothes, yet is 2.5. So yes i agree she does look funny when doing certain things.

But to the old woman who screamed at me in tescos - she is 2, and wanted to walk around lugging the loaf of bread, i didnt make her!!!! It's what toddlers like to do!

To the mum outside school.- Yes she is old enough to follow dd1 and ds on the trim track at school! she does it every day, and is more than capable, you didnt need to lift her off saying it is not for babies! and then argue that she doesn't look 2, and was i sure when i explain!

To the air stewardess - yes i am sure she is 2, yes i am sure i paid for her own seat! No i dont think she will be better laying down in a sky cot!

To the woman in the playbarn. - Yes my dd2 is dry in the day, no i didnt give her psycological damage by doing it under the age of 1, and yes i mean she is 2!!!! So she was perfectly fine having a treat of some gummi bears aswell!

aaaahhhhh i do know how old my dd is! why do people look at me like i am lying! Had a bad week with this, and i know it is a little thing but with everything going on at the minute it is getting to me! Rant over.

We have the opposite problem, DD1 is 2 nearly 3, but we had had comments at nursery as to why she isn't in with the pre-schoolers (which she soon will be to be fair, but still) as she is so tall and articulate. At 2 she wears age 4 clothes, sometimes age 5.

And dd2, is nearly 9 months wearing age 12-18month clothes sometimes bigger.

I just don't get why people feel the need to comment.

My DS is 16mo and TINY and loves nothing more than pushing his pram/the shopping trolley/small family cars about. He DEMANDS it!

I think that it really doesn't matter how old your DC is/looks, interfering people should mind their own sodding business!

Except if someone is battering their kid. Then you can interfere.

dementedma · 28/05/2011 22:55

It's hard when they don't fit into the mould. Ds has always been big for his age and, having two very much older sisters (9 year gap) is very articulate. Now at 9 he is taller than some 12 year olds and sometimes it's hard to remember that he's only a little un really, not a teen!

CurrySpice · 28/05/2011 23:04

WeirdAcronymNotKnown nearly 12lbs?! That is one bouncing baby! :o

Both of my girls are very tall (their dad is 6'4") and they often get mistaken for muc older. I got told off by an old lady when I had DD2 in a pushcahir aged 2 because she was clearly too old Hmm

It's mighty annoting OP and YANBU

vickster11 · 28/05/2011 23:29

I would be tempted to get a badge with Im 2 on it and pin it to her coat just to shut people up. It must be soo annoying. If it was me I would end up telling people to piss off.

WillowFae · 28/05/2011 23:44

DD is tiny too and I get comments about how grown up she sounds when she talks because people expect her to be younger.

She is 4 and just earlier this evening I was saying to DH that we really need to get her a new nightie as the 9-12 month one she has is getting a bit short!

KoolAidKid · 28/05/2011 23:51

Mother of a tall 3 yo daughter here and I've had so many comments from people who assume she's much older. I'm ALWAYS being accused of babying her for one reason or another, and I feel like telling people that she's only 3, not 5.

And people will talk to her as if she's much older and look annoyed when she doesn't reply, or confused when she replies in a squeaky little girl voice and talks nonsense (she talks perfectly fine btw, but lives in cloud cuckoo land and will talk about her teddies as if they're real people, so it's sounds like nonsense if you're expecting a normal rational conversation).

SpeedyGonzalez · 28/05/2011 23:54

If I met you and your DD2, OP, I'd probably go Shock and if we were having a convo I'd definitely query why she was doing so much for such a little one. But if you told me she was 2 I'd accept it and assume that she was born early or had some kind of medical thing going on which made her smaller.

It is unbelievably rude and insulting when people do the "I know your life better than you do" thing. I tend to think of such people as a bit on the stoopid side.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 29/05/2011 00:05

My niece has lovely red hair, it's a quite an unusual shade and sil has had numerous people over the years asking if she dyes it Confused

boolifooli · 30/05/2011 07:44

So true about ignorance of people with regards to growth charts. In a room of 100 2 yr olds, only one will be the average. The other 99 are below or above.

QOD · 30/05/2011 08:20

Yeah another one with a long/tall daughter! When she started school she was head & shoulders over all but 2 boys (and every girl) - same at nursery. ALways expected to be more grown up etc etc
But one of my nieces! She was 6 inches taller than THAT when she started school - she was literally at least a foot taller - she started in age 10 summer dress - my poor sis in law had an awful time. The reception class teacher made her cry - saw her in the class room with my sis in law on the first say and snapped to her to get out and get to class.... She is 5ft 10 now at 21 so not as tall as I thought she would be!

DD is 12 and 5ft 3 (I', 5ft 1 ..... so unfair)

QuackQuackSqueak · 30/05/2011 10:30

Wow I'm amazed by the Tesco woman!

I have a little one as well but never got any comments like that, maybe I look scary! Mostly just got people being amazed at how much mine could do when they looked so young.
