buying 5 and 3 a Nintendo DS each as birthday presents? That's not a present; it's a babysitter!

All that fuss and strop over a couple of DSs? Can't you at least invent some ishoos for your cousin, or something similarly more interesting?

excellentadventure · 27/05/2011 17:58

I'm confused. They've bought them a son each, or do you mean a sister? How do you mean?

DontCallMePeanut · 27/05/2011 18:01

Grin @ excellentadventure

ComeWhineWithMe · 27/05/2011 18:03

Who are all these new people? Thay all seem a bit loony.

IHeartKingThistle · 27/05/2011 18:05

I'm not new!

ComeWhineWithMe · 27/05/2011 18:09

Not you! There just seems to be a lot of new posters about who are trying to be outraged for the sake of being outraged, Hence the rise in daft threads about nothing where the op gets all het up and everyone else is like WTF are you getting so stressed about.

Not that I mind I can just find better things to be outraged about.

Vallhala · 27/05/2011 18:13

Half term strikes again? Wink

pink4ever · 27/05/2011 18:15

I have to agree with op. I gave into peer pressure(dh and from speaking to other mums at nursery) to get my dd a ds last xmas. She has played with it a handful of times(age 4). I think they can be good but I do think that at that age she is obviously too young.
My ds has a psp which he enjoys(also x-box) but is only allowed to play it at weekends. Tbh I am quite glad my dcs prefer to be out playing as is saving me a fortune in buying any more of the bloody gamesGrin.

ComeWhineWithMe · 27/05/2011 18:17

This thead reminds me of the Russell Howard sketch about people finding something to be outraged about just for the sake of it.

Ragwort · 27/05/2011 18:19

I agree with you OP but obviously in the minority - we have never bought any technological gadgets for our son, now 10, and he has survived very happily and seems to fit into society without any problems, despite assuring us he is the 'only' child in his class without a DS/gameboy/X box/Wii/mobile phone etc etc Grin.

MrsGaGaGo · 27/05/2011 18:19

I'm outraged that your outraged. Deary me ;)

Andrewofgg · 27/05/2011 18:20

Some misunderstanding here and it is my fault. The children are those of cousins - not mine and DW's. To be precise their grandmother is DW's first cousin. DW and I are just observers.

The parents in question are minimalist when it comes to doing anything for their children. He begat them, she conceived them and gave birth to them, and that's about as far as it goes. Now they use both lots of parents, her sister (two small kids of her own!), his brother (a devoted uncle, will make one hell of a good father), friends, cousins, you name it, and now they've had this bright idea for keeping their little darlings quiet.

So you actually think they said "I know my dear, lets get them a ds each and that'll shut the little buggers up" ?

Hahahahahaaaaaaaaahhahhahhahahahahahahahah...you fool.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 27/05/2011 18:26

Gawd you lot are so gullible, makes me want to skip off to the dark side, pah !

ComeWhineWithMe · 27/05/2011 18:27

Lockets me too, DP will be thrilled when I tell him we can have a night out. Do I have to download anything to set the babysitting up on the DS or is it just automatic? Will it be happy with coffee and biscuits or should I order in a pizza? Does it charge extra after midnight?

MrsBananaGrabber · 27/05/2011 18:32

Pffft, everybody knows psp's are far superior

MY 9yo DS came home from school and told me that PSP stands for 'pretty small penis', some boy in his class was going around asking everyone if they prefered the DS or PSP Grin

kaid100 · 27/05/2011 18:45

Their kids, their money, their choice.

Damn, I saw the title and thought this was going to be something juicy like your cousin was shagging your husband.

YABU.

SauvignonBlanche · 27/05/2011 18:50

YABU about the DS but I can see why you might be concerned about other aspects of their parenting.

Firawla · 27/05/2011 18:54

this is not something to be disgusted about. if they never spend any time with their kids thats another issue but the ds itself is not the problem

mum765 · 27/05/2011 18:57

YANBU think it's way too young myself. They should be playing with plastic cows on their farm at this age.
