Or are they unspeakably naff?

I was thinking something like this:

eat drink enjoy

bon appetit

We are skint after re-doing the kitchen and can't afford an amazing piece of original art work, etc etc. But worry they belong on the 'things that are dated' thread.

Do you have (non-kids) wall stickers in your home? AIBU/naff?

YY agree with sayithowitis

try bouf.com, some of their wall stickers are very original and quirky.

I made my own wall letters out of cardboard and painted them, for an even more low-budge approach! They're a little bit more utilitarian, though: it says "FLOSS" in my bathroom, and "OM NOM NOM" on my kitchen door. I painted them in co-ordinating colours and went around the edges with a silver marker, I think they look quite nice - but then I am a student and I have low standards.

low-budget*

An Ordnance Survey Map of a place that's special to you? About £8 to buy. Frame it if you want it to look smarter than blu-tack. I've used eFrame before and been pleased - frames made to order.

If you're not sure about writing then maybe something more neutral like this ?

Thingumy · 27/05/2011 12:58

You say you don't have the money for an origional piece of artwork...... why not make one?

I turned a large ikea ribba frame (holds 15 6x4's) into a funky picture. I removed the origional mount, had a new one cut, choose a phrase/quote I liked and had it made up using old scrabble letters. The whole thing cost under £35.

Not on the high street also do posters for a reasonable amount that can be framed up to make them look more expensive.

I love the Penguin print idea, but then I'm a mad-book person so personal taste.

If you like it, then go for it, but personalise it rather than have a generic Bon Appetit. It's not my sort of thing but it's good for covering space. For a dining room, why not have a large mirror there instead, especially if it's the wall facing the window?
