we're moving house and have fingers crossed got the house we really want but, I've just had a dillema - there isn't an obvious place for the Christmas tree!
Oh what to do! Grin

I have never thought of this when moving. It will definitely be on my check list for the next time!

lucykate · 26/05/2011 21:33

until we moved into our current house, (which is our 3rd), we always had problems with xmas trees. dh prefers a huge real one (tree that is Wink), and goes mad when i used to trim off all the back branches so it could go right up against a wall.

LittleJennyRobyn · 26/05/2011 21:48

YANBU, This is a factor for me when moving house, shifting/buying furniture etc.
It used to go in the corner of the room, but the sofa we got a couple of years ago was double the size of our old one and i went into a bit of a panic when i realised there would be no room for both

My tree now has pride of place in the bay window, can you not chuck an armchair out or somthing???Grin

Trees have to go in the window to show off so that everyone can admire them. I love to see whats the fashion for trees- white lights, gold lights, very few have coloured lights.

MumblingRagDoll · 27/05/2011 00:44

You get rid of a chair. Tis' the only way...we had to do it. We have a three seater sofa and ONE armchair.

LordOfTheFlies · 27/05/2011 00:51

My DS has the front room so at Christmas we make his sofa bed back to a sofa and use it as a 2nd lounge/telly room. Tree goes in there, he goes in DDs room.
How's that for dedication, not just moving a chair, moving my Son Wink

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/05/2011 08:01

Oh dear! I'm not sure it would fit where the chair would go because of the shelves we're planning on putting up...

I am stunned that you didn't reject the house during viewing. Wasn't the Christmas-tree-positioning-potential the first thing you checked?

wolfhound · 27/05/2011 08:27

what's the hallway like? we have ours in the hallway by the front door - advantage is that it's under the stairwell so can have a really tall tree.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/05/2011 08:27

not at all!
hadn't even crossed my mind until the moment I posted on here!!

Where do you live? We will all help you locate a tradesman at once to replace the bay window/build an extension/take out a wall.

girlywhirly · 27/05/2011 08:53

Of course, if you have to remove seats to make room for the Christmas tree, it is the perfect excuse not to have the inlaws to stay as there will be nowhere for them to sit! Yes I know it sounds mean, but might be an important consideration for some. (I mean the sort of ILS who expect to be waited on hand and foot, and are hyper critical of everything)

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/05/2011 09:20

haha my inlaws are unfortunately/fortunately the opposite. We get on very well but they don't sit still, unless its with a cup of tea (they make about 500 a day) then it's a quick gulp and they're off again. I never realised we have so much that needs washing up but they seem to manage to be doing it all day everyday ...

An outside tree?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 27/05/2011 09:31

i also bought a new sideboard this year (for toy storage! Confused) and it is in my christmas tree place, i dont have a clue what i'll do!!

my options are buy a smaller dining table and put it at the patio door, or buy a 3-4 foot tree and put it in the old place on top of the sideboard.

i'll be very Sad to not have my beautiful 7 ft tree though!!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 27/05/2011 09:35

i admit i'm quite pathetic though as i've already started worrying about christmas dinner.

we alternate between families now that we have DC and we are at DHs mums this year (she cooks turkey slices it and freezes it a week in advance & serves dried powder soup and just adds extra veg) which i just don't think is christmas.
i'm doing my own christmas dinner on boxing day this year Grin

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 27/05/2011 09:37

mumblingragdoll i also have a 3 seater sofa and ONE chair but this is because my living room is the size of a postage stamp!!!

IgnoringTheChildren · 27/05/2011 10:13

Umm - have you actually signed anything yet? Maybe this isn't the house for you and you should get yourself back to the estate agents PDQ! Wink

IWantToBeAFairyWhenIGrowUp · 27/05/2011 10:21

Grin what a funny thread.

We have the same problem as a poster upthread whereas we've bought new storage where our tree normally goes. Reckon we'll have to move the furniture as I love my tree where it goes.

I hope you find somewhere.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/05/2011 21:58

Grin we signed the paperwork today!!
