To have had a real lump-in-the-throat moment with DS tonight?

DS has all of a sudden taken a massive interest in his watch, which he has had for about 3 years now. He wanted to wear it in bed last night, then to school today, then in bed again tonight. He can't manage the buckle himself (he's 6 but a slight fine motor skills problem) so he called out when he was in bed for me to come and take it off for him. When I got there, he was a bit tearful and said 'Oh mummy, I think I've broken it, I was just trying to wind the hands back..' His little face was so tragic. I knew that all he'd done was not push the button in, so I took it off for him, fixed it and explained that even if he had broken it, it could be mended. 'I was going to hide it,' he said sadly, 'But then I thought I ought to tell you.'
AIBU to be a) a bit moved and flashing back on my own childhood and b) proud of him for owning up (and recollecting that I never did when I was little)...

That's so lovely. And lovely that he decided the best thing to do was to come to you for help rather than be frightened of your reaction :)

What a lovely lad he sounds.
Well done to him.

Pat on the back to you, SGB, for raising such a thoughtful boy.

Ahhhh that's proper nice :)

I had a REAL CRY earlier. DS snuggled up to me on the sofa today and said "not going to leave you mummy, i'm going to stay with you forever and never" I thought "that is LOVELY" then I thought "one day he WILL leave me" and I had to go into the kitchen and cry into the sink make a cup of tea.

Write this down. Put it in a book and give it to him when he is 18.

He sounds a sweet little soul.

SGB - his Mummy has done a good job of bringing him up :) He sounds adorable.

StayFrosty - would they like another friend too - I'd like you to cook me pasta & veg in a cheese sauce everynight too :)

I'm quite boggled actually, as I was always the little sod who wouldn't own up... Mind you, there is also a part of me that is going (internally) 'Yeah BOLLOCKS to people who ask me if he's autistic. (He does the hand-flapping and jumping and is obsessed by trains, but I think he's picked the former habit up from a mate of his and he is good on eye contact and empathy).

He sounds like a sensitive little chap sgb (although I own one of those and aspergers has been mentioned).

Ds killed a ladybird whilst a fit of rage a few weeks back and then spent 3 days maudlin and obsessing over the possibility of him orphaning baby ladybirds and the prospects of their survival. He lost sleep but hasn't killed anymore innocent insects since
