to have let my friend's DD watch Charlie And The Chocolate Factory?

I looked after my friend's DD for the day on Sunday. She is 5.

In the afternoon, I put the original Charlie And The Chocolate Factory on, you know the one with Gene Wilder.

We had a lovely time, she'd never seen it before and really enjoyed it.

My friend arrived and was actually annoyed with me for letting her watch it, because 'it would make her want sweets and chocolate'!! It is a bad influence on children apparently, and when she tries 'so hard' to get her daughter eating healthily, she doesn't want a film sabotaging it!

Shock

It's not even like I fed her DD any sweets!

I saw her this morning, and she said that her DD had been 'hyper all night' after watching it.

I had no idea I had committed such a terrible wrong Hmm

pmsl.

mumoffourgirls · 25/05/2011 10:18

I think she is over-reacting just a tad!!! My daughters love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory both versions and never once has they been Hyper or wanted chocolate and sweets after watching them!!!

RockStockandTwoOpenBottles · 25/05/2011 10:19

PMSL here too. Because a film will always make our DCs hyper ALL night. What an idiot. Assuming that she never takes the child in a supermarket/newsagent/kids' parties just in case she succumbs to the evil sweet things in the world.

Or is she just a pathetic specimen who is unable to say no to her PFB?

Polkadott · 25/05/2011 10:20

Haha what a silly cow. YANBU!

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2011 10:22

YABU actually because that version is called Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wink

Who can make the sun rise, sprinke it with dew.... etc etc. You are an eveil person and should be ashamed of yourself. Grin

SequinsAndSparkles · 25/05/2011 10:23

She is usually lovely, so it seemed a bit strange. But she has always been very careful at parties about what food she would let her DD have etc. Her DD's parties have often had just one 'sweet' option, so like she would let the kids pick jelly & icecream, or a piece of cake. No sweet things on the buffet. But I just thought she's a bit precious about things like that, and that's fair enough. But being annoyed with me over a film just seems a bit ridiculous. Ah well, I'm glad to know you don't all thing I've poisoned her DD's little mind too! Grin

Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two!

PMSL. Your friend is ridiculous.

SequinsAndSparkles · 25/05/2011 10:24

Haha Puppy I can never remember which one is called which! I am thoroughly ashamed of myself Wink It's a bloody good film though!

What a Doris. YANBU

Dare I say that perhaps her darling child was just naughty last night rather than having some virtual sugar rush?

WeirdAcronymNotKnown · 25/05/2011 10:25

You absolutely terrible mother. Somebody phone social services!

Silly woman. Her not you obviously. Sheesh.

There must be other funny stories about her bizarre complaints, please share them!

RockStockandTwoOpenBottles · 25/05/2011 10:25

Well I think you should just go and sit in a corner and stick to finger painting next time Grin with imaginary paint

backwardpossom · 25/05/2011 10:27

Actually, I would suggest it teaches kids not to be greedy - after all, look at how poor Augustus Gloop, Verruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee end up. Charlie Bucket is not greedy and all the good things happen to him.

Your friend is a complete loon...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/05/2011 10:28

Ah bollocks. Some people need a kick up the bum and a dunking in the chocolate river.

TheCrackFox · 25/05/2011 10:29

She sounds like an arse.

RockStockandTwoOpenBottles · 25/05/2011 10:30

And in my experience (and I do have some as DCs range from 2-17) they get hyper from doing hyper things. Not what they eat. And here is a case in point....

muminthecity · 25/05/2011 10:31

YABU, everyone knows that just looking at pretend sweets on tv will make children hyper, and their behaviour unmanageable! Your friend is mad.

SarkyLady · 25/05/2011 10:31

I agree with backwardpossom.

Has she even seen the film?

Thereisnotry · 25/05/2011 10:33

She sounds insane. The bit with the chicken head being chopped off is disturbing though isn't it. I thought that was what you were going to say.

mumoffourgirls · 25/05/2011 10:36

She should be grateful you looked after her DD.. At least she didnt do want my DC`s do and sing Willie Wonker and his chocolate factory everywhere they go..

ManicPanic · 25/05/2011 10:36

I love that film.

Dd(5) has seen it several times and has taken to intoning 'hmm yes the mother and father are at fault' when she sees naughty children on Supernanny. She doesn't do the Oompah Loompah dance though

Your friend is clearly bonkers btw, that film has a really strong moral message!

squeakytoy · 25/05/2011 10:37

I have watched it hundreds of times and dont remember the chicken bit!..Shock might have to watch it again now (are we talking the original or the new version? )

I think the childs mother is being utterly ridiculous though... and a tad insane!

Thereisnotry · 25/05/2011 10:39

In the Gene Wilder version when they go into the tunnel it is there, seriously. I had never noticed it until my dd pointed it out.

fairydoll · 25/05/2011 10:40

YANBU she is bonkers.Next time show her saw or silence of the lambs

emmanumber3 · 25/05/2011 10:41

What a nutcase! I'd be interested to know what her DD is allowed to watch?

Mind you, if you'd have said your friend had a 7 year old DD I would have suspected you were talking about my sister. She also has strange ideas about such things Blush. Disclaimer: We are not alike.

backwardpossom · 25/05/2011 10:43

I've never noticed the chicken bit either - will have to look for that next time I see it!
