DS's sports day this year is being held at a sports centre and the children all have the opportunity to go swimming - the catch is their parents have to go in the pool with their dcs.

Cue lots of parents reading to the end of the letter and their faces fallling with horror as they realise they are going to be seen in their cossies/speedos by parents and teachers they have to see on a twice daily basis.

Obviously I am going, I have never put my lack of self confidence in the way of taking DS swimming before but I a dreading it.

I take my DS swimming very regularly, and although I'm not confident about my body I don't care about people seeing me in my cossie because I don't know them and have to see them again.

I would rather wear a swimming costume on it's own than with a tshirt/shorts or something, feel that would draw more attention to me. I like the dive bombing idea Grin but that isn't allowed in this pool, it's a leisure kind of pool, shallo at one end and deep at the other, kind of like walking off the beach into the sea. Smile

DS is looking forward to it and I wouldn't dream of not taking him, he' be so disappointed - doesn't stop me dreading it though!

The council has just built a brand new swimming pool here. The front of the building is made entirely of glass and is on the corner of an extremely busy junction..nextdoor to a garage and a supermarket.

There isn't even a wall or some shrubs surrounding it, so it's literally right on the pavement for anyone to stand and look in as they please.

I can't see many people feeling comfortable with this Confused

I swim 60 lengths three times a week. I bloody love swimming. I have been known to stop and have a long chat with fellow-parents (including fathers).

There is no way I would want to do this outing Grin.

"some could consider taking an afternoon off work if they wish to support sports day"

er, nope. I'm a teacher. We're not allowed to take afternoons off.

My mum usually goes to support sports day on my behalf, but she wouldn't be keen at all on getting in a swimming pool!

Dd got an invite to a swimming party after 4 months at nursery. I was a bit WHAT !! about it at first as all the other mums are skinny young things and Im pushing 40 and probably weigh three of them put together. We had a great laugh and I would do it again. Dh and I do opposite shifts so there is always someone available for dd, one of us will always inevitably miss out on something.
