Simon has definitely improved with age whereas JT has gone k bit haggard, but you insult Nick Rhodes at your peril, Porto...

Actually, talking of things DD-related, I have 2 tickets going spare for the O2 gig on Saturday - good seats! Pls pm me if you're interested, I don't want much for them - saw their 'secret' gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire last month so am not feeling bereft at missing them to go camping instead [gimmer] :o

Portofino · 24/05/2011 23:17

But David Sylvian got ever more . I remember going all the way to London to see an exhibition of his photos in about 1986.

According to wiki SLB is worth $60 million, so has now gone up in my estimation Wink

sharbie · 24/05/2011 23:20

but i think i could forgive him that porto tbh

Portofino · 24/05/2011 23:22

I'd love to go, but live in Belgium so not practical Wink. Last saw dd at Wembley Arena in 2004. Dd was about 3 months old and me and bf escaped. Had a good giggle with the woman next to me, when we discoverd that we had been forbidden by parents to go see dd at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1982 but that night the parents were all babysitting.

I loved Japan too. Especially David Sylvian in all his Gentleman Take Polaroids make up-ooh swoon..

I went to the Hamilton Gallery in mid to late 80's to see both, David Sylvian and Nick Rhodes' exhibitions.

Am guessing we're all of a certain vintage then, poss the wrong side of 40?

sharbie · 24/05/2011 23:27

correct Smile

Lovecat · 24/05/2011 23:28

Oh, Porto, my mate and I travelled down from Liverpool to see that exhibition - still got some prints and the catalogue somewhere... I remember there were some beautiful young men there . And the same gallery had an exhibition of Nick Rhodes' photos a year or two later and we went down again!

Lovecat · 24/05/2011 23:29

X-post! :)

Portofino · 24/05/2011 23:30

Oooooh David Sylvian out of Japan. I had a poster of him too. Obviously I was too innocent to recognise he was a bit too in touch with his feminine side.
Voice like Bryan Ferry without the cringey dad-dancing and screwed up little face.

sharbie · 24/05/2011 23:35

he's not gay lotf Grin

Portofino · 24/05/2011 23:35

Now as a grown up, I still see the attraction of SLB but looks like a poncey arse - though I LOVED him then.

He looks like Sarah from Bananarama!! Wish I hadn't seen this. Some things cannot be unseen.
Much preferred the Lady Diana style hair (even with tacky roots)

Portofino · 24/05/2011 23:39

I still like to play loudly in the car, given the opportunity.

YANBU - agree with OP, though not sure about the beard. Going to Bournemouth next week - 8th time I've seen them & always fab. Glad he's got his voice back. Having read Andy Taylor's biography he seems like the nicest of the band - not great writing but interesting - including how his wife [Andy's] had post pregnancy psychosis with their first child.

New album has some really good tracks on it (thanks partly to Mr Ronson) but usually find at least one track per album I like - 'Box Full of Honey' / 'Mars Meets Venus'.

Looking forward to strutting my stuff like it was 1980-something this time next week.

sharbie · 24/05/2011 23:52
