to not want to be told, at a parent and toddler group, that prayer will cure PND and SPD?

Went to usual parent and toddler group. Have been going for a while and liked it. As with all the others I've been to it is held in a church hall but they have always been secular/open to people from different faiths (it is a multicultural area).

So I was not expecting to go along and have to sit in silence for 20+ mins and listen to people involved in running the church try to talk the mothers into joining their prayer group. One woman said that the day after she went her PND was cured Shock Hmm and another said that she had SPD and was told she would have to have a CS birth before she went to the group but afterwards it was no longer a problem!

Now I'm not a Christian or people of faith basher but I think this was totally out of order! I dont think going to a toddler group is like going to a church service. People go there because they are lonely and or want a break or their HV tells them to. Some women there are probably very vulnerable, some may have PND and someone telling them to shun pills in favour of prayer could end up with someone killing themselves, like if they suddenly stop medication. I think this was vv irresponsible.

One woman actually ran out in tears!

Oh I'd love to set our old Vicar's wife on them, she'd soon set them straight.

It's not at all appropriate if this group is being presented as a community resource, open to all, and even less appropriate if it receives any kind of local authority funding. I stopped going to a couple of local toddler groups because there was a touch to much pressure to join the Bible study group but (luckily we live in an area with a lot of toddler groups) I found that some of the others, including ones run by churches and in Salvation Army premises, were welcoming to everyone, fully accepting of the fact that in a multi-cultural area it isn't on to overbomb one particular brand of myth, and no problem at all.

I go to one its ran by the church that i go to myself ie not ran with money or help from community nhs etc,

we would never do that; of course if someone said they wanted to chat privately that would be different, we use the same toys crafts etc that we do for creche, no prayers etc just coffee homebaking chat anf friendship like it should be, very occasionally give out invitation cards to say the christmas carol service, easter service, but church is more inviting to new people if its low key and friendly and laid back, no pressure to join anything or to send your children to sunday school, anyone who wanted these things would find them on notice board or could ask

obviously its in a church hall and it looks like that some texts on walls in form of embroideries and pictures, notices about other meetings some leaflets are left if you want to pick them up just like on sunday morning, all that I think is reasonable,

even if you are deeply religious I think prayer with PND ( as with any other illness or problem) would be alongside the recommended tablets and counselling I think it's a dangerous thing to say that prayer is a substitute for good medicine or that it means you should stop medication no wonder OP upset

OP - why don't you go dressed up as a nun next week and tell them you're thinking of taking holy orders..... Grin
