To think taking the kids to school in PJs is ridiculously lazy?

Just reading a news story on BBC where a school has had to ask parents to actually get DRESSED before taking their kids to school. Apparantly some parents turn up to school in the morning in pjs and dressing gowns and even go as far as to pick them up in their dressing gowns and attend meetings like this!!
I've seen it where I live too though, women shuffling to the school in huge dressing gowns and pjs - I mean, ffs how lazy and what a terrible example to set the kids??

It IS ridiculously lazy. No excuse. Nooooooo excuse. Some people have no self-respect Grin

chelstonmum · 24/05/2011 09:24

Not something I have come accross in our area although a good few mums and dads look like they have slept in the clothes they wear!

Im just glad DH does the morning driving and i can sit and use the mirrors for make up application!

Dozer · 24/05/2011 09:25

This is making me feel much better about my low sartorial standards!

Peachy · 24/05/2011 09:27

I strugle with going to the washing line in the garden (fenced but overlooked on all sides) and would never, ever consider going anywhere in PJs except maybe to the loos at 3am on a campsite. School, tesco- never.

Rememebr camping with Mum a few years back and we were in shop at 9am (Mum rises at 4am every day) and two teens came in wearing PJs; Mum's jaw dropped!

I reckon I am a Queen of dodgy morning- couple of ASD kids, one beinga ssessed, never get more than 2 hours unbroken sleep due to a DH on meds that mean he doesn't wake (yeah I did check with GP LOL). And I still wouldn't do it. Rather be late tbh.

Peachy · 24/05/2011 09:31

My hair's usually a state though; not unbrushed just needs a cut and can't find time atm; that sort of thick, wavy hair that should be renamed 'impossible- I'd buy products for 'impossible' hair like a shot!

BsshBossh · 24/05/2011 09:31

Peachy, me too with the washing line!

I definitely agree with posters here about being presentable in public is setting a good example to DC. I wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I insisted my DD brushed her hair before she went out if I didn't do that myself; ditto stained clothing; definitely ditto nightwear.

ScarletOHaHa · 24/05/2011 09:33

I have just started doing a school run and my flaber was gasted to see mums in massive dressing gowns and slippers. It is slovenly and a bad example.
Perversely, there are also way too many yummy mummies in full make up looking like they have been up getting ready since 5am. I feel smug that I am dressed and have my hair brushed (ha Bogey)

BulletWithAName · 24/05/2011 09:36

I got told Iwas too glamorous by the assistant head of my DS's nursery Grin

DooinMeCleanin · 24/05/2011 09:39

You know the jim jams could be clean. My sister and her mates went through a phase of wandering about in their PJs and Ugg type slippers. They bought 'outside' PJs and 'bedtime' PJs Hmm. My mother was mortified and would refuse to walk anywhere with her until she had gotten dressed.

They'd even call into work to chat to each other/check the rota in their PJs. I think they got bored of everyone laughing at them in the end.

No-one at our shool does it. I've seen a few women nipping to the local paper shop at daft o clock in the morning with their PJs and slippers on, but covered with a big coat. That's about it.

Peachy · 24/05/2011 09:39

Loads of Air Hostesses at our school so glam is the ordder of teh day.

hence presentable (me) doesn't cut it overall in terms of appearance but it does in self respect.

'Tis a standing joke that the Yummy Mummy types park in a certain aplce as they can manage to cover the tan and beauty salon and the GPs (which offer private botox) on the way to pick up.........

ballstoit · 24/05/2011 09:45

I don't really care what people wear to take their DC to school in. Would rather a mum was in pjs and the kids have had beakfast tbh. I've been on placement in a school recently and several kids had had no breakfast, but their parents were dressed and made up. Getting myself ready is lowest priority imo.

vmcd28 · 24/05/2011 10:02

Peachy, I remember a previous topic I commented on, I was flamed for mentioning that boy X at ds's school always gets walked to school by his mum in pjs. The other poster said that he may have ASD or ADHD or something, and therefore getting him to school at all should be applauded. I was too scared to dare didn't like to argue. So it's refreshing to hear you say that with two kids with asd, you still wouldn't do this.

I think it also depends on the age of the kids - eg picking up 10yr olds at night and not getting out of the car is much more ok than dropping off an impressionable 5yr old at school in the morning

fatlazymummy · 24/05/2011 10:04

ballstoit I don't think it's that difficult for both events to happen. How long does it take to a)put cereal and milk in a bowl and b)get washed and dressed and quickly brush hair.
Some people seem to find it difficult just to carry out basic tasks nowadays.

Ah wmc it was probably me defending teh otehr mum LOL, much ahrder on myself than otehr people.

AS I should be, perhaps. Not a bad philosophy.

knittedbreast · 24/05/2011 10:10

ive honestly never thought about it before, i wouldnt find it odd, i think i would assume they had been up all night or maybe they lived accross the road and wanted a day in thier pjs.

I dont do it but i do walk around with no shoes on, some people will find that odd too

Al0uiseG · 24/05/2011 10:14

I have a basket next to my bed under my bedside table where I chuck clean yet worn clothes. I tend to pull something out of there in the morning to sort the dog and kids out, do some jobs, then I shower and prepare myself and dress properly for the remainder of the day.

tiredgranny · 24/05/2011 10:26

i take dogs out at half five in my pjs throw fleece over top no many people about my reasoning is going to get hot dogs jump up mud everywhere do not c point of showering or changing

tiredgranny · 24/05/2011 10:27

before walking dogs lol

lesley33 · 24/05/2011 10:28

I have for the first time ever seen a woman this morning walking about in her PJ's and Uggs. I felt like shouting bingo!

tiredgranny · 24/05/2011 10:28

before walking dogs lol

Animation · 24/05/2011 10:28

Are these some kind of designer PJs that are good to be seen out in?

HaughtyChuckle · 24/05/2011 10:36

I couldnt do that,

its a bit chavvy usually

vmcd28 · 24/05/2011 10:39

Peachy :)
Al0, a box under your bed - genious! I do exactly the same as you, except my worn-once clothes hang over the banister. I don't have any spare drawer or cupboard space so a box may be the answer!

Pictish · 24/05/2011 10:45

I wouldn't go out in my PJs but I don't give a flying toss if anyone else does.
Doesn't affect me at all.
