You are all crazy! Fish Fingers are only to be put on a Sandwich (made with white, medium sliced bread and real butter) with BROWN sauce and peas. It is the only time I will eat brown sauce.

I have just had to text my DH to tell him this is what we will have for tea, thank you MN!

FabbyChic · 23/05/2011 18:32

I never understand why people consider school dinners to be sufficient enough to be called a dinner, they are really just like a lunch, so children should be given a proper dinner when they come home.

emmanumber3 · 23/05/2011 18:32

YANBU - there's protein in fish you know Grin.

pingu2209 · 23/05/2011 18:33

FabbyChic - would fishfinger sandwiches count as a proper dinner at home?

YABVVVVVU

salad cream indeed, it's green ffs

but on thick white bread, with butter, mayo and squidge of ketchup, dream on a plate [gein]

defineme · 23/05/2011 18:37

I agree that school dinners are small, but it pisses me off that hot is inherently linked with dinner- a cold tea is just as nutritious. Sandwiches can be just as calorific as a hot meal. Fishfinger ones are just the same as serving fish with carbs and if you ggive some salad stuff it's a balnced meal.

Hulababy · 23/05/2011 18:39

Some school dinners are small, but not all. I have eaten at DD's school a few times and the portions, especially at junior age, are very good. Thy cn ask for more and can have bread and butter to go with it. And they have dessert. Depending in the actual meal DD sometimes choses not to have a big meal again in the evening.

Hulababy · 23/05/2011 18:40

And now my quiche is looking really unappealling! Would it be wrong to serve up fishfinger butties to DH and myself tonight now instead?

kw1986 · 23/05/2011 18:40

YABVU!!

Whats this malarky about salad cream... Salad cream is good for nothing but chips and maybe a cheese salad sandwich!!

It should be ketchup or maybe even garlic mayo!! (Maybe even tartar sauce if you're feeling wild!)

GrimmaTheNome · 23/05/2011 18:46

I've never actually tried the combination, and haven't had salad cream since childhood... but it tastes quite like tartare sauce so I'd have thought it was a good combo - like the classic fish sauce but without suspicious green bits.

I wish my DD liked fish. She used to love fish fingers as a toddler but now she can barely stand the smell of fish without retching. I think they must have had some nasty fish for school lunch when she was wee. Sad

I really ought to get some fish fingers for myself anyway... which ones are the best?

COCKadoodledooo · 23/05/2011 18:49

FabbyChic- wtf??!

OP - YABU. Unless you make me one too Grin

Honeydragon · 23/05/2011 18:49

I need to try fishfingers and salad cream now, where do you live and I'll leave now Grin

FabbyChic · 23/05/2011 18:51

No Pingu a fishfinger sandwich is a snack! not a dinner.

I just know that my Ma even after we had school dinners always gave us another dinner at home, I always done it for my children too, and they must have needed it because they ate it all.

WinkyWinkola · 23/05/2011 18:51

Fishfinger sandwiches are one of my favourites. Along with a fried egg sandwich.

I always use ketchup but I love salad cream and will be trying that next time.

Yum and yanbu.

muddyangels123 · 23/05/2011 18:52

YABVVVVU

H P sauce all the way Grin

My DC have school lunch and always come home hungry.

Today they had mixed salad, tuna & new spuds. for dinner. Oh, and banana Custard ( soya version) for pud.

itsnicetobenice · 23/05/2011 18:53

fishfinger sarnies are the best - yanbu he is a lucky boy!

itsnicetobenice · 23/05/2011 18:53

or girl or both Blush

yousankmybattleship · 23/05/2011 18:55

YANBU Yum. Sounds like a very nice tea to me.

CurrySpice · 23/05/2011 18:55
worraliberty · 23/05/2011 18:59

There's nothing wrong with fish finger sarnies...yum!

Fabby's right though, school dinners are actually just a very light lunch. I'm not sure about senior school but I do know in primary they're given tiny portions...but that's enough considering it includes dessert and then they'll often want to run around and play afterwards.

Still I don't think it constitues an actual 'dinner' if you know what I mean.

mathanxiety · 23/05/2011 19:03

Fish Finger sandwiches should be made with hot toast, butter and lemon juice (the breakfast of champions).

bruffin · 23/05/2011 19:06

YOu are not the mum I just bumped into in tescos looking at the mayonaise, who asked her teenagers what they wanted for tea and they said fishfinger sandwiches.
I was quite happy to do fishfinger sandwiches as we have been away for the weekend but DH wanted something more substantial, so we have barbecue ribs, rice and salad.

funnybumblebee · 23/05/2011 19:07

I work in a secondary school and I don't have another dinner at home if I've had school dinner at lunch time- they're massive!

And nothing wrong with fishfinger sandwiches!

Scholes34 · 23/05/2011 19:11

Fishfingers are fab, but you need tomato ketchup. Keep the salad cream for cheese salad and chips and it's HP brown sauce for bacon sandwiches (tomato ketchup is too sweet) . You can have tomato ketchup with a sausage if it's in a roll, but it has to be brown sauce if you're having sausages with mash.

I can forgive the salad cream and fish finger mix though. Sounds like I should give it a go, so YANBU at all.

PigletJohn · 23/05/2011 19:14

are these fingers cooked?
