To feel really disappointed with Woman's Aid on this issue

I have been in touch with our local WA refuge about donating some items, well a load of items I have sitting here as I am due some building work and a big clear out.

Cotbed, cot, almost new toys, bedding, blankets, lovely new baby clothes - would be a great help to someone who REALLY needs it I imagine.

I have left countless messages, when someone does answer they take the same details and never get back to me, they say they desperately need the things but don't seem to be able to tell me where and when to drop them or collect them from me it's baffling.

I would appreciate any suggestions on another charity who could use items like this.

That seems a shame :( Perhaps they are understaffed and just don't have the resources?

You could try your health visitor or local sure start centre, they are sure to know of some families in need who could be really helped by your donation.

Can you try a different refuge? We support one from work and we are ALWAYS getting requests from them for this stuff - especially when someone is being moved from the refuge into their own accomodation.

Yes I will try a different refuge good idea

well for a start the refuge will be in a 'secret' location,so they wont divulge to you where to drop the item!!

also, the staff will need to be careful. some men will go to great lengths to find their wife!! (bitter experience of this!!)

what about some kind of asylum seekers' drop in? there is one near me that is always desperate for stuff - people given 'leave to remain', need to set up home, but have nothing and no money.

littleducks · 23/05/2011 17:37

I think Scarlett realises that she wont be dropping the items at an actual refuge, she has offered to let them pick up or drop off somewhere...neutral places like Surestart centre/GPs have done this ime

springydaffs · 23/05/2011 18:42

agree, sounds like they're under-resourced. They do such a fantastic job though, truly amazing, saving countless lives (and minds) - can't complain

Did you phone the main number on the WA website? I did this, left my details and then a woman phoned me back about a week later from the local refuge.

No idea whether you would have more luck doing it this way.....

Hi thanks everyone. I left a sort of last chance message on their VM and someone picked up and rang me back! They are coming in the half term to collect all my stuff in the half term. So happy.
