The PM will be speaking about this morning. He wants you to round up for charity at supermarkets. And give at cashpoints.

I find it hard to believe. But I trust the PM will have donated at least 2 million from his massive fortune.

Do we really need a top politician telling us to give to charity. I like to choose the charities I give to .How about you?

DC is being helpful by raising the issue. Do we seriously believe that thereis any point in the unwilling giving. But if some are encouraged to feel good aboyt giving they could find real joy. And what an example for our children

I don't think its is platitudes, I think its a deliberate attempt for the Government to keep as much provison despite the fiscal constraints that we are under by seeking money and expertise from the third sector.

This is setting us back 150 years when the civil society funded education, medical care and looked after the poor. We have a welfare state so that we all share the burden and benefits equally (at least that's the ideology).

Yes charity has a place but it is not a substitute for the welfare state. If DC wants more money to go to funding basic sevices like schools, health, lifting people out of poverty then can I suggest he taxes some rich buggers properly please? Angry

I would if I could!

Do churches still do meals on wheels??"

You can! No one is stopping you, as I said. So, as you said you would, who's the lucky recipient of your cooking? What will you make? When are you taking it to them?

I suspect you could answer your question about churches with google.

I give to Charities. I recently stopped giving to one charity in order to give more to the local Hospice. Their state funding has been cut you see, so they might have to close if locals don't pick up the bill instead. Is that Big Society? The government taking away valuable services from those who need it most?

We have a good meals on wheels scheme. It's ran by volunteers who wish to learn to cook/have something to put on their CV etc. Anyone can use it. You jsut pay cost price and they'll deliver. As they are able to buy in bulk prices are really cheap. A nice home made cottage pie and veg will set you back £2.50 for an adult portion and £1.50 for a childs. OAP and disabled get 50% discount. I like that kind of Big Society thing, but taking money from a Hospice and expecting that the locals will just pick up the bill is wrong imo, they ran mainly by donation as it was.

Of course! There are millions of people in dire need around the country, including without exception the most affluent areas, such as Kensington, St John's Wood, Alderly Edge etc etc...

You don't need your church in order to cook your neighbour a meal.

Are you going to do it, then? You said you would.

Camerons MOTIVATION miixed to put it mildly.. The Big Society has not took off and Calm Down Dave is trying a second launch.

Politicians motives tend not to be straight forward. Its not that kind of game. It is likely to be a political move connected with CUT BACKS to things like Sure Start...Disability Benefit....etc etc etc. The worst is yet to come, Alas.

Take an in depth look at policies. Nick Clugg is not likely to be very influencial Cameron and Osborne will call the shots.

I give to Samaritans Homeless, Women against violence. A bit sceptical about other big ones. (Daves will be big after a fashion)

Taxes aren't exempt from political motivation - they are usually put towards and filtered into pet political projects to please the electorate they are trying to woo or keep happy

I don't know any old people down my road but if it was thanks to the charitable efforts of others that allowed my gran to have some fundamental things that her pension was unable to provide.
