to worry about this

My child does a sport session every week at the council run leisure centre. They have changed the rules and now kids have to leave their drinks on a table outside the sports hall instead of taking them in.This is in a corridor a distance from and out of view of reception but which the general public have access to as its en route to the gym, cafe and viewing area. They also have an open jug of water andcups there for kids who have forgotten a drink. My issue is it would be very easy for some nutter to tamper with their drinks.

But how likely is that?
I wouldn't worry about it.
But, would prefer that the drinks were in the room with them for same reasons as you.

loverboys · 22/05/2011 18:49

no you are not. i wouldnt like that one bit either. you never know what freaks are around, till you read about it! the only thing you could do is give your child a sealed drink ie a can and instruct to not leave open in that place-have the drink after the session

AgentZigzag · 22/05/2011 18:51

Tamper with their drinks as in put some kind of drug/poison in it?

You mean like a spree killer?

The odds of that happening would be extremely small, I'd be more worried about them not having enough to drink while they're running about.

Is there anything behind you worrying someone's going to spike the childrens drink?

AgentZigzag · 22/05/2011 18:53

Is there something I don't know?

When did spiking childrens drinks become prevelent?

diabolo · 22/05/2011 19:15

Good God! There are much more important things to worry about. Some psycho could wander around all day with a syringe in his pocket ready to stab people.

Does that mean you'd never go out?

YABVU.

i think its highly unlikely tbh anyway they have water and cups there so if your that bothered don't send the drinks bottle.

HughManatee · 22/05/2011 20:41

While it's unlikely a random person would tamper with their drinks, there might be people in the leisure centre who'd think it was funny to spit in it, or something.

fairydoll · 22/05/2011 21:34

It's not a case of how likely it is, it's a case of how catastrophic the consequences would be.There are some nutters about-think about dunblane, baby food tamperings etc
Would you really, as an adult leave your drink unattended in a public place.I certainly wouldn't .

Put it in writing even anomously and it won't happen because the manager wil realise that they are responsible. He will have to get all of the parents to sign to say that they take responsibility but it would still cause a stir.

CurrySpice · 22/05/2011 21:41

YABTU and if you start to worry about tiny tiny risks that could have catastrophic consequences I'm assuming you will never take your child in a car, or to a large urban conurbation, or feed them a bsttery farmed agg, or a peanut, or on a plane, or let them swim in the sea, or cross the road, or eat seafood, or play rugby, or leave the house!!

If you start thiniking likethis OP I can guarantee you will go stark staring mad
