I am going to a wedding next week and have absolutely no idea waht to buy as a GIFT. They have everything they need and I can't for the life of me think what to buy them. I want something reasonably priced but don't want to look tight!
Heres hoping for some greta MN responses...thanks in advance!

How about a digital photo frame?

Parietal · 21/05/2011 22:43

Oxfam donation goat or similar?

Hassled · 21/05/2011 22:43

A vase or a nice candlestick type thing? A pair of nice tumblers - something like Dartington glass?

Carrotsandcelery · 21/05/2011 22:44

What can you tell us about the couple?

Punkatheart · 21/05/2011 22:45

Something decorative and special. I have bought a silver butter knife for friends - incredibly ornate. Or napkin rings. Antique glasses with a lovely bottle of wine and some deluxe chocolates in a basket? Bit of cellophane and it looks amazing - it's my special thing. However if they are not into antiques or vintage, then I am a bit stuck. You can never have too many photo albums and you can buy some beautiful ones.

One couple, who already have a child - I wrote a personalised story for their child.

Tell us a little about the couple....

Carrotsandcelery · 21/05/2011 22:46

One of our best wedding gifts was a really good quality can opener, peeler, pizza wheel etc. Not glamorous I know but I use them nearly every day and think of the lovely lady who gave them to us every time I use them.

saturdaynightsundaymorning · 21/05/2011 22:46

we got a lovely silver cake knife with our names and the date engraved on it
we used it to cut the wedding cake and it comes in handy for christmas cake etc!

SmethwickBelle · 21/05/2011 22:47

Vase. Tablecloth is a good one, the sort of thing you might not buy yourself but is handy to have. To be honest I'd overcome your worry about the amount on the voucher and do that - they can pick something they really want and in the glut of gifts they aren't going to be judging you on whether it was 10 quid or 100 quid.

whodunnit · 21/05/2011 22:48

A really good quality kitchen knife - it will outlast allthe other pressies

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/05/2011 22:48

What's your budget first?

DontCallMePeanut · 21/05/2011 22:50

Budget, and are the couple friends, family or colleagues (or other)

chelstonmum · 21/05/2011 23:03

I got a friend a handmade glass cake stand at a recent craft fair. It was £25 but looked much more expensive and as it was a one off the price couldn't be checked.
The woman had similar ones but not identical. I will PM you the online details of them and a few others as they do nice gifts and they can come wrapped too!

80sbabe · 21/05/2011 23:03

I agree with vouchers or alternatively what about something like a plant for the garden (do make sure they have a garden first though) or a really nice bottle of Champagne.

lesley33 · 22/05/2011 01:02

We really need to know more about the couple. But I did a nuptial kit for some friends. It was basically a tarted up cardboard box with a few cheap fun things like love hearts, heart shaped chocolates and a few more expensive things like a fun book about marriage and a pair of fluffy pink handcuffs.

Obviously I knew them very very well to know they would like these items. But the point is that it was totally personal. But you can't really do this unless you know them very well.

Alternatively a nice bottle of champagne if they drink or nice glasses - you can never have too many. I personally wouldn't buy something decorative unless you have a clear idea of their taste. What you may think is gorgeous, they may hate.

redexpat · 22/05/2011 11:28

We got several vases (lovely thank you), an anthology of love poems and wine.

Or, if you have the time, inclination and access to digital photos, a photobook?

onebigchocolatemess · 22/05/2011 11:29

www.notonthehighstreet.com

loads of gorgeous gifts for those who have everything!

kitty4paws · 22/05/2011 11:36

If it suits the couple / your budget how about a years subscription to English heritage / national truss ??

microfight · 22/05/2011 11:47

I would say a vintage bottle of something, the prices really vary but some are reasonable. Or you could get a great bottle of wine from this year (i.e. the year of their marriage) that is predicted to be a vintage in say 10 years. To be drunk on their 10th anniversary.

microfight · 22/05/2011 11:48

Or framed front page of newspaper for the day of their marriage?

firstforthought · 22/05/2011 12:11

Young, trendy couple. Thinking something contempory?
Thanks for ideas.
