to think that if you're on a diet, say weightwatchers, and you are on last day with a load of points left over (say 24)

you splurge - even if you're not particularly hungry?

surely the point of counting points is to use them all yes? (hopeful)

and if I don't use them today, they disappear

and if I splurge on say wine, crisps and cake then it will aid my metabolism in losing weight faster

right?

Why would you eat if you're hungry? Isn't that part of why you became overweight to begin with? Confused

DontCallMePenut · 21/05/2011 18:01

I'm not sure if it works in practise, but I like the theory Grin

smoggii · 21/05/2011 18:01

Umm...unfortunately my WW lady says that you should only use a certain amount (something like 5points a day) on treats.

Don't listen to me tho i fell off the ww wagon 3 weeks ago Blush

worraliberty · 21/05/2011 18:01

I meant if you're NOT hungry Blush

AgentZigzag · 21/05/2011 18:03

If you're looking for someone else to blame YABU.

'MN made me do it' Grin

It just won't be worth the guilt afterwards - you know it won't!

Why would I eat if I'm not hungry?

because I can Grin (I thought that was universal?)

and yes of course I'm fat because I ate too much, but am eating same quantities now just taking lots of effort in preparing foods

it says on WW online that you can save up your weekly points for a splurge

I have 24 left over of weekly points (and about 10 for the day) - I am considering the long evening ahead

a glass of wine is 3 (but I had 4 of them yesterday and feel a bit delicate still)
a packet of crisps is 4 (crunch-along-a-Dr-Who)
a slab of cake gawd knows

I think it's important to eat all your points.

handsomeharry · 21/05/2011 18:11

I guess you could if it keeps you within your points but you won't feel good about it.

Try not to. I know how hard it is.

corlan · 21/05/2011 18:23

You do know this is madness don't you?

CantTell · 21/05/2011 18:25

No wrong! You will just have a sugar crash and eat more crap.

Maybe treat yourself to a nice healthy meal with lots of veg and protein, but don't eat shit

Onceamai · 21/05/2011 18:31

Once cheated, once gave up, once can pinch a big wadge of flabby tummy - don't do it, don't do it. ......but you could gently tipple on three glasses of dry white and not come to too much harm. Once needs to start again.

As long as you don't go over your points, you haven't 'cheated' and don't need to feel guilty. Eat your points, enjoy them and when they're gone they're gone.

Birdsgottafly · 21/05/2011 19:00

You may need to eat more carbs, which use the points up and exercise more. You will find that this works better long term than what you are planning.

You have got to do what works for you, but you should be changing your eating habits so that you learn not to eat non-nutritious foods. This will give you good health, which should be as important than dropping the weight, over time.

I find that i have to allow points per piece of fruit (as it was under the old pointing system) or i don't lose weight and take it out of my weekly 'treat' allowance.

Do it if you really want to but don't blame ww at the weigh in if your not losing weight.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/05/2011 20:15

I think that if you are craving one thing in particular and can have it without going over your points, then fair enough. But I wouldn't eat just for the sake of it because the more you eat now the more you'll have to work off later.

I think you need to change your mindset, or you could end up as one of those people who loses a lot of weight on WW and then puts it all back on once the diet is over like I did

squeakytoy · 21/05/2011 20:20

Why eat if you are not hungry, just for the sake of it. That is just stupid.

No wonder WW makes so much money, they dont want you to succeed, they want you to keep going there and handing your money over. Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 21/05/2011 20:24

I did WW for 6 months.
Lost three stone.
Always saved a point or two for wine at the weekend.
Never put the weight back on.
Have been size ten ever since.

I see some of the same people still going each week nine years later
duh
if you don't "get" it after a month or two you never will.

seaweedhead · 21/05/2011 20:24

I've never joined a diet club so no expert but isn't the point of something like WW to teach you healthier eating habits. Surely if you're really good for ages then binge just for the sake of it that defeats the object. Maybe have a relaxed evening but don't go stuffing yourself just for the sake of using up your points.

You should eat your full allowance. I mean, one week of not won't do any harm, but if you consistently eat well under your allowance then your metabolism could slow and you could lose less weight. Not good. If you splurge tonight you may weigh a bit heavy for a day or two but it will balance out and you will still lose weight.

I believe that healthily weighted people are so because they save treats for splurges and don't eat/drink them on a daily basis, so I think it's positively healthy Grin
