Surely it must to be possible to sensibly recycle non-working mobile phones?

I mean, for pity's sake, when there are civil wars started over the rare minerals used to manufacture them, there must be a way to recycle them ethically? All I can find is dodgy sites. Anybody out there found anywhere ethical to recycle them? I have about 5 gathering dust waiting for a decent place to go to.

It's not really an AIBU, more of a frustration.

Some charities collect them:

The Co-op

Red Cross

I'm sure there are plenty more. We've also had mobile phone recycling envelopes home from school as a money-raising thing before now.

thanks expat- I followed your link and requested some posting bags from them. I just hope they properly recycle the components rather than just flog em.

Does anyone know what exactly the charities do with the phones? Do they sell them on to a commercial company or are they properly broken down and recycled? I am very anxious that they not end up in landfill- I'd rather hold onto them for longer than risk that.
