So following on from lots of other threads about housework vs him her and the kids...

I work full time in the summer months as does my husband, he does night shift 12-8 and i do one day 3pm-11pm then the next 7am-3pm. We have 3 children 18 who stays at home and at her boyfriends 14 year old son and 4 year old daughter.

When I get home after the evening shift the plates from lunch dinner and whatever else were in the kitchen. So if i didn't do at 11.30 at night they would stay there till i got home from work at 3 the next day.

I have gone on and on about it (We have both been working since May 1st) and nothing changes so I finally blew it and collected up all the plates and cutlery and glasses, leaving one glass, plate, fork knife and spoon per person.

The dishwasher has been unplugged so now everyone has to sort out their own plates etc....

So AIBU Hmm

No. I think they're lucky you didn't stab them with the forks.

What have they had to say about all this then? Do they see why you are so mad or do they think you are wrong?

WhereYouLeftIt · 20/05/2011 15:26

YANBU. And I'd probably have been eying up the forks as well.

WriterofDreams · 20/05/2011 15:42

YANBU definitely. Well done!

pallymama · 20/05/2011 15:46

YANBU, well done. I must write this one down somewhere so I can use it when the time arises! Grin

HipHopOpotomus · 20/05/2011 15:47

YANBU next step issue tinned soup rations with straws :)
Seriously though what you are facing is totally out if order

Imnotaslimjim · 20/05/2011 15:51

My DH is like this sometimes! I'll never forget the time I worked away from home for a fortnight, and when I got home there was all the crockery and cutlery we owned, stacked in the sink! The kitchen STANK and we didn't have a dishwasher! My first day home, I spent most of it in bed catching up, when he got in from work he asked why I hadn't washed up! I was furious!

Now, he does at least take his plate to the kitchen, but he never washes up, or even loads the dishwasher. He drives me bonkers sometimes, but I don't work now so don't mind doing most of it

You, however, are not being unreasonable, and I think if he carries on, disposable dinnerware would be the way to go! at least then you don't have to wash it up lol

Pancakeflipper · 20/05/2011 15:55

I would wash it up, put it into a crate. Hide the crate. Keep a nice plate for me and one for the youngest then hand the others plastic forks/knives and paper plates.

Dropdeadfred · 20/05/2011 15:56

Yanbu but I bet you still end up doing the washing up

BelovedCunt · 20/05/2011 16:01

Imnotaslimjim why would you stay with a wanker like that?

aliceliddell · 20/05/2011 16:06

No! YANBU. Your plan is genius! But - potential doom - the evil-doers might use your and dh's sets. Hide your two sets?

aliceliddell · 20/05/2011 16:08

And Pancake - liking your thoughts....but make them pay for tyhat equipment.

Andrewofgg · 20/05/2011 18:04

YANBU.

But when DW was in hospital and came home to find the place in apple-pie order, nothing in the sink, nothing in the washing-machine, nothing waiting to be ironed or even put away - I think she was just the least bit disappointed on the inside to find that she is not indispensable!

imnobody · 21/05/2011 06:46

Yes we are a bit strange aren't we Andrew.

Well went home last night and the 'spare plate' was dirty.... Son said that he would do it this morning. I shall see when i go home.

As for what my husband says he made me go ahead with the threat. Mind you he is the worst. He is better than what he used to be but unfortunatly I married a Greek who is very set in his ways, and while he has changed a lot over the years he is never going to change completly...

For example 18 years married and he has never made me a cup of tea. He will get the kids to make one but he wont.

It does drive me crazy at times but I am hoping that with the examples I set the kids wont be totally Greek Grin
