to be surprised at the idea of seven year olds in pushchairs?

I was posting on another forum (not parenting related) and a query was posted about whether a certain airline allowed pushchairs/prams for free. OP was told yes, but in a follow up post said the child was 6. I said that since the clause about free pushchairs was on a page regarding carriage of infants, they might want to check with the airline.

There were then several posts about how wrong I was, how pushchairs are essential mobility equipment (I said that equating them with wheelchairs was quite insulting), and how even seven year olds have pushchairs on holidays since they can't walk with adults in the evening if tired.

I wasn't judgemental, I was just surprised. Is this commonplace? I have a seven year old, its about 4 years since he last sat in a pushchair, I can't imagine him even fitting in one!

has an apparently school aged child who has toddler tantrums, it is NOT funny, indeed. Sad

i didnt mean to bold that

my dd1 is 4.1 yrs, she sometimes uses pushchair, there are times when my dd2 2.8 will be walkin and dd1 will be in pushcahir.

there are other times when i am out with dd1 dd2 and ds3 and dd1 will be screamin and cryin that her les hurt, and she needs to sit down.

all kids are just different and have different abilities, my 2yo can walk further then my 4 yo, not because i treated them any differently, just becuase they are different people.

but 7 is a bit excessive.

DS is nearly 7yo, had a whopping toddler-style tantrum yesterday, had loads of adults (including head teacher) attempting to intervene, not a chance, he was screaming at.

Gasp, shock, but later when I had to get somewhere a 15 min. trip walk away with him, I used the.... car

if they are in a buggy at 7 they probbly will be disabled by the time they are 10

this level of inactivity is borderline child abuse

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/05/2011 10:56

Can't drive and Dd won't go in a buggy, so if she has a toddler style tanty she has to have it on the bus

Cezzy · 21/05/2011 10:58

Really wouldn't want to push a 7 year old in a buggy for long, I'd need a wheelchair myself!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/05/2011 11:15

Lljkk I don't think anyone was suggesting people should legitimately put older kids having strops into buggies, the point was if you see an older child in a pushchair, possibly having a tantrum..they may be youger then they look

Like my dD who looked 6 when she was 3
