to literally 'forget' I was on a diet (day 1 of diet!)

I decided to diet. This is a long term thing but decided to cut out sugar (yes I am addicted). Picked my dd up from nursery, she asked for an ice lolly, which I agreed to. We went to the shop and she asked for a Twister - I picked up a Mint Magnum.

Half way through eating it, I realised I was supposed to be on a diet!

OMG! How can I 'forget' I am on a diet?

Because Magnum's are delicious, that's why... Blush

Tomorrow is another day... Grin

Its easy to forget, because a 'good' diet is always about breaking bad habits and creating good ones... you haven't broken your bad habits yet that's all. When you make a conscious decision to buy a lolly and you allow yourself that as a treat, then you'll know you're making head way.

When I started my 'new way of eating' (don't like the term diet it infers denial) I often forgot... I'd stick my head in the fridge and grab something without thinking... don't do it these days, unless I really want it.

Has happened to me also. Blush

You're attempting to change your behaviour around food, it can't happen overnight. Also, a lot of eating does not happen because you are hungry, it happens through habits - a biscuit when you have a cup of tea etc. It's obviously been a habit that you and your DD share treats. Don't beat yourself up about it - slips will happen, until you've built up new habits.

I always find if something starts off really badly, it goes on to be brilliant Grin

Good luck on cutting out the sugar, you're a better person than me for even contemplating it!

aldiwhore · 19/05/2011 16:48

I'd allow yourself some sugar everyday sugarjunkie is correct!! Wean yourself off it by allowing yourself some when you really REALLY need/want it.

That's how I cut down from 20 cups of coffee a day to two. Cold turkey isn't good, you're more likely to fail.

It's easy to forget anything on day 1. Routine is what helps us to remember what we are doing.

pingu2209 · 19/05/2011 17:18

Flaurenoko - that is hysterical. I had a Jewish friend growing up and my mum always relays the story of my friend's mum eating bacon sandwiches. She just couldn't resist the smell of cooking bacon!

I forgot I was going vegetarian and tucked into a Cornish pasty at lunch time Grin.

TheOriginalFAB · 19/05/2011 17:23

I should have said this was 20 years ago!

COCKadoodledooo · 19/05/2011 18:12

Like FAB I have had the 'forgotten I'm a vegetarian' moment too. Went out for dinner and ordered a T-bone steak. My dad pointed out my error after I'd finished it Blush

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 19/05/2011 18:16

Cutting out all sugar is a big ask to be honest. it would be like asking me to cut out coffee completely, I couldn't do it. Also the problem with cutting out sugar is you end up eating sugar substitutes which are crap for you. Just gradually cut down.

DontCallMePeanut · 19/05/2011 18:51

I'm also on a horrible diet. Craving a pizza, followed by a rocky road from pizza hut cries

IfI do splash out on pizza, can you guys promise not to tell the scales please?
