I should really post on childbirth but not sure anyone will be there..

First timer (obviously) and my waters broke at 6pm tonight. I have been down to the hospital to check baby is ok and everything is fine but no ve as they sent me home to labour.

I have been having v strong contractions since 10pm and have cranked on the tens machine which seems to have kicked in. Contractions seem very strong - I have had to get up from bed and walk around / wiggle my hips and breathe to get through them. They feel easier now I am up and active but they seem to be varying between 3-10 minutes apart for the last hour. Is this normal? Do I wait until they are regular throughout an hour?

Help!!!

Do you have anyone with you and how long does it take to get to hospital? but yes this sounds normal to me - 3dc but quick labours so prone to twitching.

Good luck

Bubandbump · 19/05/2011 00:48

Thanks! Yes my dh is asleep in bed and the hospital is only 10 mins away so can get there quickly but just not sure what is normal - if anything!

As I remember you need to be about 2 to 3 mins between contractions and that must be regular. If in doubt do keep on the 'phone to hospital.

Your going to be a mum soon woo hoo!

Bubandbump · 19/05/2011 00:50

Thanks - I am so excited!

Yeah it sounds normal, they usually settle into a rhythm, I would go when you feel pain is getting to stage you can't cope with, any feelings of panic starting or when they settle to five minutes apart. You'll know.

You're very good letting him sleep. Suffering can be shared you know

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 19/05/2011 00:52

It will be great! Might sting a tad but will be sooo worth it Grin Ooh am excited for you now! Do you know what you are having?

confuddledDOTcom · 19/05/2011 01:00

Have you had a bath? I got to 2-3 minutes earlier for about 3 hours, had a bath and it's settled down. It's a good indicator of how you're doing, whether you're affected by it.

Bubandbump · 19/05/2011 01:00

Boysrock I am thinking that he will probably be up tomorrow night with a baby so I am banking some brownie points - nothing to do with the fact that he is grumpy when tired...

Fkanc - we don't know. Will be very happy with either as just can't wait to meet it and it has kept us hanging on 10 days after it's due date so far..

It will be great! Don't worry about anything, keep calm, keep focused it is going to be great.

Bloody hell I sound like someone off netmums. Confused

You keep posting here as long as you can if you need to Smile

Good luck - you're about to experience the most rewarding thing in your life (very jealous I'd have another one tomorrow!) ... Sorry for being so unhelpful!! xxx

Bubandbump · 19/05/2011 01:24

I might be here all night! Seemed to getting a bit less painful so went to lie down - owwwwwwww! Now back on birthing ball wiggling my hips - it's so much better. Just wondering how many hours I'll have to do this for.

My waters went in the middle of my pregnancy yoga class all over the mat so am still quite relaxed from that although I managed to scare most of the other ladies there!

First bubs can take a long time - it might help if you want to speed it along to have a walk around for a few minutes. Maybe walk up and down your road/around the garden for a few minutes.

Bubandbump · 19/05/2011 03:44

Down to 6 mins apart for the past hour and tens machine not doing much now - ouch! Will see how long it takes to get to 5 and then call delivery - really don't want to go there too early though!
