to despise non-uniform days nearly as much as I loathe uniforms?

Bloody hate them.

They either want to wear completely unsuitable clothes because of the novelty (DD1) or freak out and stress about the 'ohmygodwhatshalliwear' 'ihaven'tgotanything' 'everythingiswrong' 'arhg' (DD2)

why do schools inflict this on poor parents (me) who don't need extra stress and hassle?

So it's your DC wearing clothes that stresses you? Grin

I don't think I've ever come across a solution to that one.

iEmbarassedMyself · 18/05/2011 22:01

and they're fecking extortionate too, £5 DD2's school wanted last week!
What happened to £1?!

She also got sent home in her 2nd period because she was wearing (my!) heels. She'd stuck them in her bag to hide them, cheeky mare. Her form tutor then had the balls to lecture me about her dressing inappropriately... well, then, that's what a uniform code is for, why have you gotten rid of it for the day?

Next time, I'll have her decide her outfit the night before and hide all of my shoes as soon as I hear non-uniform day is approaching :o

I used to dread non-uniform days at school until I got leg warmers and fingerless gloves and then everything was rosy Grin

I hate them as a teacher - no uniform = no work as far as many pupils are concerned and there are always a few who forget/aren't allowed to take part and spend the day embarrassed and upset.

Crevix · 18/05/2011 22:07

if they wore proper colthes every day the novelty would wear off and they'd just wear normal stuff.

I hate that there are so mamy of them too - one a term at least at DS school. Ours have just stung us for £3 too for some charity that I've never heard of. The thing that annoys me (as well as the stressing over what to wear) is that parents don't really have a choice - imagine my DS being the only one in uniform because his mum would prefer to spend her £3 on something else.

AuntiePickleBottom · 18/05/2011 22:11

i love non-uniform day, but my son is 5 and don't realsie fashion trends yet

Shallishanti · 18/05/2011 22:13

at ds's school they get them as a reward for good attendance
seems like a good idea to me, but then ds is the last one to be stressing about clothes!

BendyBob · 18/05/2011 22:13

I like uniform. We all know where we are with it.

I hate non uniform days. Not only have there been occasions when we've forgotten resulting in a mercy dash back (by me Hmm) with different clothes, but the concept of paying to wear your own clothes is bonkers. Confused And the umming and ahhing and deciding on something totally mad which results in arguments and nearly being late...

Far and beyond that though I detest fancy dress days. WBD in partcular. I would so love to have a quiet 5 minutes with the inpired individual who came up with World F* Book Day...oh yes.

I object to 'mufti' days for two reasons ...... ok so it's only a quid BUT at my sons school they have to pay a £1 to wear their own clothes OR get fined £1 for non conformance . That pisses me off.

Where I work its £1 to wear your own clothes OR wear school uniform and mark yourself out as perhaps having parents in financial difficulty who cannot find a quid. If you decide to buck the system and wear your own clothes without the obligatory £1 donation, then you are slung in the unit for the day for 'non conformance to uniform'. Form tutors, who know their pupil better than any other - will often stump up the cost for children from families on benefits because of the psychological damage that can be done.

I absolutely hate them (non unifrom days, not teachers!).
