to think that I should be able to buy BABY clothes in age 6-9 months!!!

Ds3 is 5 months old, not sitting, only just rolling, very much a 'new' baby but he is a big baby and in 6-9 months clothing. He got some money for his Baptism recently so I decided to go and buy him some new clothes. I tried 4 or 5 different shops and once they got past 3-6 months I found that most of the clothes were either demin or shirts etc. which would look more appropriate on a toddler, an older child or ,in some cases, an adult!

I sometimes leave him in colourful babygrows during the day but I also like him in soft baby outfits such as little all-in-one dungarees or romper suits ( I found lots of summer rompers but the weather isn't warm enough at the moment) AIBU to suggest that newborn type ranges should extend past 3-6 months, given that most babies are only just starting to sit up and get more mobile and most are still spending long periods lying down?

Where can I buy baby clothes for my baby????

BabyGap

MoldovanHardHatporn · 18/05/2011 17:13

I thought you could get them up to 24 months, you used to be able to

ForeverNamechanging · 18/05/2011 17:14

H and M do nice baby clothes

jordannarikki · 18/05/2011 17:14

I know what you mean. I really like the hungry caterpillar stuff they do in sainsburys but they don't do it past 3-6 months.

messymammy · 18/05/2011 17:18

dd2 is nearly 8months old and I've still got her in babygrows.People are surprised though, keep asking me is she in her pyjamas etc.Babies dont need outfits!they are so comfy in babygrows, there are years for suffering for fashion!

Sainsbury's and Next are good. Sainsbury's had lovely, lovely Gruffalo vests and sleep suits last time I went in, I almost tried to squish my 2 year old into some Grin. I'm a little baffled by your post though, I know that there are a lot of daft outfits around but sleepsuits and such are pretty easy to get hold of. If you have a TK Maxx try there too, you can usually get some of the really funky sleepsuits in there, still more expensive than the supermarket but cheaper than they would be otherwise. I tend to look at them, drool a bit and go to the Salvation Army shop for a rummage in the bargain bin.

LatherRinseRepeatAsNeeded · 18/05/2011 17:20

Have you tried Sainsburys?

DD was a big baby and they did great legging/tracky bottoms and t-shirts

ClipArt · 18/05/2011 17:20

Agree, second-hand is good Indith. I've had some lovely things from eBay.

Indith · 18/05/2011 17:23

JOrdan is the Hungry Caterpillar really that small? I thought they went bigger, I love them, have to have a little sniff and a stroke when I go in. The Gruffalo stuff definitely went bigger.

jordannarikki · 18/05/2011 17:25

I can only find them up to 3-6 in my store indith, they might have more in others. I really wanted the white babgrow/romper one. Nice to have something that's not 'pink for a girl'

springbokscantjump · 18/05/2011 17:54

Ah I've got the gruffalo vests/sleepsuits :)

I'm in exactly the same boat. My heffer son is well into 6-9 months clothes at 5 months (we've just had to pack up all his 3-6 months clothes as it was beginning to look very silly). He's not even rolling unless we aid him on his way :)

I like babies in babygrows. They're comfortable and its such a faff putting him in 'proper'clothes. But I was the only one in baby group to not have their child in a little outfit.

piginmuck · 18/05/2011 18:46

I know sleepsuits are easy to find (although the ones with attached scratchmitts only go up to 3-6 months). My point is that there are some lovely soft baby oufits that are available up to 6 months but it is very difficult to get the same selection after 6 months. Mothercare was one of the worst culprits yesterday, although I did manage to find a couple of things. I haven't tried baby gap and I hadn't thought of H and M or jojo so thank you for the suggestions.
I actually bought the Gruffalo vests the other day and the pyjamas for my 5 year old but wasn't as keen on the baby stuff.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Polarn O Pyret do nice all-in-ones in bigger sizes. I bought a couple second-hand at NCT sales / ebay as they are really expensive new, but they have washed and worn brilliantly so if you are planning more kids you could probably justify the price - very nice bright unisex designs.

Mishy1234 · 18/05/2011 18:56

John Lewis have fairly inexpensive packs of sleepsuits in 6-9 months. I also second Polarn O Pyret. The all in ones they do are great and have long cuffs at the sleeves and feet. DS2 is nearly a year and still wearing the 6-9 month size. Expensive, but they last for ages.

piginmuck · 18/05/2011 18:57

Grumpla - I love the P O P stuff - especially for my older two boys - some of those retro prints are fantastic - thanks for that. Loving some of the GAP stuff too. Might have spent up by the time the evening is out!

Goodness, do I just have an awkward one?

I way prefer trousers and t-shirt to babygrows/sleepsuits with all the poppers - something I can whip off to change rather than something I have to wrestle arms and legs into and popper before he gets them out again.

Mishy1234 · 18/05/2011 19:46

I think PoP have 20% off tomorrow (online and instore). Might be worth holding off until then if you're thinking of getting something.

Mishy1234 · 18/05/2011 19:47

If online you type in EVENT20 (tomorrow) for PoP.

ZenNudist · 18/05/2011 20:03

Have you tried bluezoo at debenhams? They had lots of nice outfits in soft fabrics, of course everything is summer now but UK weather not really good enough. John Lewis also good. I don't see what is wrong with trousers and long sleeve Ts. Proper clothes wash better than sleep suit fabric. I also love Tracksuits, look cute and are on & off in a jiffy. Ds is a big lump and very early on looked a bit too big for any of the baby blue 'baby' outfits he got as gifts.

MayDayChild · 18/05/2011 20:11

H&M must haves are long and short and 'less' sleeve vests. Rainbow of colours. I use them instead of tshirts as they stay tucked in.
They also sell excellent trousers with soft roll down waistbands (think maternity and you're there) though I haven't seen any lately.
So kinda smart jogging bottoms really!
And H&M clothes are actually the size on the label and fit for ages!! Don't ask me how though as no other shop has managed to ever measure a baby IMO.
My hefer of a boy wears pretty much nothing else. Good quality. Cheap and order online able. They do run out of stock tho and boys range is about one tenth of girls which annoys the bejesus out of me.

sprinkles77 · 18/05/2011 20:34

DS aged 14 months has babygrows still from mothercare. Most are a bit naf, but you can dye the plain white ones with dylon. I hate jeans and shirts on him, they look ridiculous and all stiff and uncomfortable (he's not walking yet). He has some nice "joggers" and tops from H&M: generous sizing there and stuff lasts well considering how cheap it is. And funky colours, none of this baby blue shit which I hate.
