In thinking this is dodgy?

DH went to the GP re blocked ears and has to have them syringed. He was told he has to go and see "the practice nurse".
Anyway, the woman being referred to as "the practice nurse" is not a nurse at all. She was a receptionist who now has had a few short courses in a few things like dressings, stitch removal and whatnot (Im guessing the courses but know she does stitche removal too).

Is this a bit dodgy? She is NOT a nurse. (We know this for a fact as we have known her as a distant acquaintance for many years before she got the reception job there)

She will be a HCA which are allowed to do minor procedures as long as they are trained but to call her a practice nurse is a bit Hmm

Do you have to do a course to be a hca?

I don't know, so hopefully some HCP will come along and tell you, but I thought ear syringing was quite a delicate process and might result in burst eardrums if done improperly. So I wouldn't be keen.

But how well do you know her - do you know, for example, that she hasn't retrained at nights whilst doing her reception job or similar?

Can you do nursing or hca in the evening? Confused
We know her pretty well...she is a mate of my husband's ex wife

Bit worried about his ears now

A woman left a TA job at my school and went off to be a Generic Health Assistant, doing exactly what you describe above. 6 weeks training is all.

When she was describing what she would be doing (changing dressings, assessing people to try and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital etc), one of the teachers said

"No offence, but you're not touching me unless you're a qualified nurse or doctor".

I have to say, I couldn't agree more.
