In a dream kitchen?

My SIL is renovating the kitchen and her husband said she could have anything she wanted and that she should have a good think about what she really misses and needs in her current kitchen. She has said the one thing she has always wanted is a second dishwasher. (they entertain a LOT).

What would you have? Assume space is no issue

washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, food processor, more than 4 plug sockets, space to swing the cat, an efficient fridge freezer, nice cupboards that actually fit our crockery etc in, worktops that aren't 40 years old, a nice shiny new oven with an extractor fan that a) works b) is not coated in grease from previous tenant which will not come off and c) looks nice.

Oooh an island in the middle to prepare stuff on and sit round.

A sofa.

not much really Blush

A big enough kitchen to have both an island and a dining table in. Loads of kitchen cupboards, one of those smeg fridge freezers, a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker, blender, TV in one of the cupboard doors, massive Aga, breakfast bar, big double patio doors that lead on to a massive garden.

That's all I can think of right now.

My dream kitchen wouldn't have a washing machine and dryer in - they'd be in my dream utility room next door Grin

Lots of granite worktop space, large sink, lots of plug sockets, a walk in larder with floor to ceiling shelving, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, TV and radio, enough space for crockery that smaller plates don't need to be stacked on top of larger plates.....

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/05/2011 11:28

A boiling water tap. (Can't remember name)

An in-cupboard charging station.

A sofa.

A moveable island.

Room to sit 10 round the table comfortably.

Double doors to outside seating/eating area.

Plenty of cupboard space.

Kilner jars.

Will probably be back.

Two washing machines - Miele.

I once managed Christmas dinner with no oven (it broke down the week before christmas), and no water in the kitchen (washer went on Christmas eve). I didn't even worry about this. But when my washing machine breaks down I go into full stress mode.

HarrietJones · 16/05/2011 12:27

I have a filter tap which is brilliant. In my dream kitchen I have a walk in larder.

CurrySpice · 16/05/2011 12:30

Huuuuuuuuuge fridge

Built in Miele coffee maker

Waste disposal unit

A chef.

MamaLazarou · 16/05/2011 12:46

A cast-iron wood-burning stove, an old-fashioned larder, two big ceramic sinks and a collection of ramshackle wooden dressers. A proper mincer, enough space for my pasta mangle-thing and a huge oak kitchen table.

Fitted kitchens and shiny gadgets are not my thing.

(Apart from a decent washing-machine!)

DontCallMePeanut · 16/05/2011 12:50

Room to bloody move Grin Seriously, my kitchen is miniscule.

I'd like room for a decent sized fridge.

Room for a tumble dryer.

Room so I could have more than one appliance plugged in near the hob.

Room so I could get a decent sized oven.

redexpat · 16/05/2011 14:17

Wide shallow drawers so that when you open them you can see everything spread out and don't have to go rummaging through spoons and potato peelers to find the whisk.

An oven at arm height so I didn't have to break my back getting the Christmas turkey or tray of roast potatoes out.

A bigger, wider oven.

A little shelf on the wall for the radio.

Tile/glass splashback behind the cooker for easy cleaning.

A space for cookbooks.

A built in draining board (mysteriously lacking in all kitchens in my host country).

A proper toaster that can do 4 slices of bread at once! (also mysteriously lacking in host country)

I use the hand held blender a lot, so I'd like someplace to hang it where it's handy.

The whole of the lakeland catalogue.

Someone else doing the cooking & washing up.

headfairy · 16/05/2011 14:35

I'd quite like lulubella's kitchen merged with a bit of chaos' (like sofa and doors to garden seating area ), plus I'd add a steam oven and a built in coffee machine. Oh and a marble slab built in to one work top for pastry making.
