AIBU to bake some finger cookies for my ds's friend? He accidentally cut the tip of his finger off at work (cook) 2 days ago.
My dh suggested finger cookies, I thought that was brilliant idea!
But looking at the recipes gross me out, so I am not sure if he would be amused or not?

Very poor taste, sorry. I'd be questioning your judgement if you did that after my son was hurt. It's a nice idea to make something for him but try and have a modicum of actual sympathy instead of making fun of him.

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 16/05/2011 09:17

it depends how old he is and whether or not he has the right sense of humour

will he find it funny? If so, go for it. It would make me laugh, but I am 34. It wouldn't make me laugh if it were one of my children who had been hurt.

alegre · 16/05/2011 09:24

I'd say that if you're unsure about how they'll be taken (i.e. whether ds's friend will see the humour in it) then no, don't bake finger cookies. I think that the fact that you're asking means that you know that it could be misinterpreted.

I can sort of see the funny side of it but then I'm older and it's not my child.

'He accidentally cut the tip of his finger off at work'

That's not a child, go for it

savoycabbage · 16/05/2011 09:48

Yes it is not encouraged for children to work as cooks.

iscream · 16/05/2011 09:56

He is 23 years old. They are in the oven, but I will let my son be the judge I guess? I have a feeling he will be mad he didn't think of it! The friend knows us really well, and has a wicked sense of humour.

Before being baked

They look awful. No way would I eat them.

iscream · 16/05/2011 10:02

Sparkle, don't worry, I would not even consider doing that if a child cut the tip of a finger off, I am still a bit un-comfy with the cookies.

iscream · 16/05/2011 10:04

They are peanut butter cookies.
Maybe I will toss them out. We love his friend, hence me baking cookies for him in the first place.

CalamityKate · 16/05/2011 10:12

See, if I were the one with the missing fingertip, I'd think the cookies were hilarious! I'd be chuffed to bits that someone had gone to the trouble of making them - they're brilliant! Grin

How did you make them?

messymammy · 16/05/2011 10:16

oh God that is genius!!Absolutely brilliant idea.

I'll now be wishing someone I know cuts their finger tip off so I can make some :o

AlmaSinger · 16/05/2011 10:18

Personally, I would find that funny, especially if I had lost the finger tip!

sparkle12mar08 · 16/05/2011 10:19

Nope, still don't like them. Awful.

ChinnityRhino · 16/05/2011 10:23

hmm he has a wicked sense of humour but surely its a bit like taking the piss out of him

sure;ly losing the top of your finger is quite upsetting?

surely for a chef?

maybe its too close to the bone for his wicked sense of humour?
I dunno

iscream · 16/05/2011 10:24

They are peanut butter cookies. The finger nails are almond slivers I soaked in red food colouring. The blood is food colouring, you make lines on the fingers for creases. Most people make them with short bread dough, but peanut butter cookies are easier, so I did that instead.
I used a recipe on the back of the peanut butter jar, not the best pb cookies, but they are fast and easy.
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
Mix until well blended.
Make into fingers, and bake at 325 on unbaked cookie sheet for 15 minutes, or until slightly browned.

Darn, I don't know what to do. I don't want to be insensitive, I was so horrified after my son told me what happened.
Arg. I think maybe we should make a batch of normal cookies.
WHY did my dh think of this idea? And why did I think it was brilliant?

Fantastic thread, loved the before baked link
P
lease can we have a post baked link too

Fab idea, Im sure friend will love them Smile

DirtyBit · 16/05/2011 12:24

I'd find it hilarious, and as you say, he has a wicked sense of humour.
They look amazing.

FrogmellaMoonbeam · 16/05/2011 12:38

I think a 23 year old with a wicked sense of humour who knows you well will love them and would know you weren't trying to be insensitive. Whether or not he will be able to bring himself to eat them is a different matter entirely and depends on the stomach of said friend!

CurrySpice · 16/05/2011 12:40

They look amazing!

However, I would say, if in doubt, don't!

yummybutterbiscuit · 16/05/2011 13:03

My OH and all his friends are 23, and i cannot imagine them being anything other than in stitches laughing at how funny those cookies are. CANNOT imagine anyone of that age that I know taking it badly at all. go for it!

Ormirian · 16/05/2011 13:07

Those are brilliant! Gruesome, but brilliant.

DH cut the top of his finger off and he'd have laughed at those. You would have to be the judge of his sense of humour though.

Mandy2003 · 16/05/2011 13:10

If you throw them out, please please throw them in the garden for the birds! Your neighbors will be stunned and amazed!!
