AIBU?

To be annoyed that I put on weight everytime I try to lose some

I'm generally just over 11 st, I would like to be about a stone less.

So, as per usual, I started a health kick 3 weeks ago. I'm now 11st 9. I've cut out all snacks and I've been getting up an hour earlier to go for an hour's bike ride before I get the kids up. I drive for a living, but have to average a drop every 4mins to make any money. Where practical, I usually run up and down the paths, so not a totally sedentary job.

I know from previous experience that as soon as I stop trying to lose weight I will drop back to just over 11st. So how the hell do I get to below 11st? Pre-dcs I was 8st. My eldest is 14 and the only time I've been below 11st since then was when having hg with the other 2 pregnancies.

To make things worse, everyone always seems to bang on about the waist-to-hip ratio thing. I have no bum or hips at all, so my waist measurement is actually larger than my hips, and of course the weight I always put on goes on my belly, making it worse.

I'm just really fed up with this now. Am I blatantly doing something wrong?

Bimbo it's impossible to cut carbs completely, but low carb diets aren't 'nonsense' (from a weight-loss point of view they work though long term, it's not the best health wise).

I do strongly feel that the western diet has involved to be too reliant on basing meals around refined carbs and starches, and a lot of health problems come from this. What I do is more a 'carb curfew' diet, so I don't eat carbs in my evening meal, instead focussing on protein (which is especially good after a workout). The carbs I do have during the day are porridge for breakfast, rice, quinoa or sweet potato for lunch. I do cut out wheat as much as possible because I suffer from IBS and it definitely affects me.

Slimming world/Weight watchers et al, all they really do is use different tricks to restrict calories. There is no such thing as 'free food' - if you eat enough of anything it will make you put on weight! I think (though could be wrong) that slimming world works on a food combining theory? So there are days when carbs are restricted?

OP I suppose the key is to find out what works for you. What is obvious though is that your current diet combined with your lifestyle isn't working, and you either have to make some changes in order to lose weight (and believe me I do know that it's hard to do, it requires a complete change of mindset) or accept that it's going to be too difficult and to try to love the shape you are. If your GP says diabetes isn't a risk then I guess it's not as urgent?

My DP goes all day without eating anything when he is busy at work. He then binges when he comes out (really unpleasant to watch!!!)- he has 'stored' fat around his belly. Not a good look- its got to be because of his eating habits.

8 weeks ago I would have thought nothing of going to the vending machine at work, buying a bottle of coke, twix and a packet of monster munch. This doesnt even register with me anymore, in fact the thought of stocking up on that crap again makes me feel replused.

A lot about losing weight is your mindset. I have made feeble attempts at losing weight before which have failed because my mind wasnt really with it.

Either way stored fat on stomach is not healthy, even if blood sugar readings are still normal. A diet low in refined carbs would sort this out quickly, in some ways lucky if weight on stomach as its much easier to shift (unlike weight on thighs bum that doesn't respond as well to a sensible diet.)

Sounds like you don't want to change your way of eating, so YABU to be annoyed about being overweight.

forever I was going to say YABU as well...plenty of sensible advice on here and losing weight takes a lifestyle change and hard work. If you don't want to do that, then you can't be annoyed really...

There is no '1 magic trick' (despite what some ads say) that will help you lose weight.
