AIBU to think people who are anti cyclists are hypocrites

I am always hearing people moan about cyclists and the normal argument is that they don't pay road tax and they jump red lights and generally a menace on the roads.
I was wondering how many of these people who moan about them jumping red lights do exactly the same thing as a pedestrian. I would say on my average cycle journey I have to shout, brake or ring my bell three or more times because a pedestrian has stepped out without looking or crossed the road when the red man is lit.

So, AIBU to think that many of the anti cycle brigade must be hypocrites because they don't abide by the highway code themselves.

Haven't read all of this thread.

I walk, cycle and drive. There is no such crime as "jaywalking" in the UK - if pedestrians choose to ignore the red man, that's up to them - I do it all the time if the road is clear. No road user could expect somewhere like Oxford Street to by easy to navigate on wheels - maybe it should be pedestrianised.

When I'm cycling though (and I never jump red lights), the thing that really hacks me off is people who walk in cycle lanes when there's a footpath running alongside it. Why????

used to be a cyclist. some car drivers did not seem to love me. Tough.

op, i will happily hold my hands up and admit that i hate cyclists and i regularly jaywalk. I do not agree that this makes me a hyprocrite though. I pay attention to all road users when diving across the road crossing, I was actually told by my driving instructor that jaywalking can make you a better driver as you are able to judge gaps in traffic effectively. I rarely see cyclists who pay as much attention to the flow of traffic as jaywalking pedestrians

Stayclassy "I rarely see cyclists who pay as much attention to the flow of traffic as jaywalking pedestrians"

How do you have time to 'see' cyclists when you are such a great Jay walker?

Please read stayclassy's post and replace jaywalker with cyclist...interesting!

Sorry op, I don't really understand your question. I cross the road when it is safe to do so without endangering myself or anyone else, obviously this requires the ability to 'see' cyclists Hmm
And if you read my post replacing jaywalker with cyclist you get a load of nonsense comparing cyclists and, er, cyclists. Interesting indeed.

Stassyclassy "I cross the road when it is safe to do so without endangering myself or anyone else, obviously this requires the ability to 'see' cyclists"

So is it okay for cyclists to cross when it's safe to do so without endangering themselves or anyone else, obviously this requires the ability to 'see' pedestrians and vehicles.
