AIBU to expect DH to turn out his own pockets before putting clothes in wash basket

DH left important item in his pocket and then put clothing in the dirty wash basket. I then put washing in washing basket into washing machine without checking pockets.

DH says I should always check before putting his clothes in the wash as that is what he does.

I disagree thinking that he should have removed it before putting in the basket because:

a) he knew it was there and very important to him
b) he knew the clothes were going in the wash
c) he knew that I would not know it was there unless I specifically checked all his pockets

AIBU or is DH?

Cat, I love you! Grin

I refuse to sully my hands with DDs any more (genetically programmed not to wear her slippers, so they're always filthy) so I wash them as they are and bung them back in her draw for her to sort.

DH has the most revolting habit of still using proper handkerchiefs so there's no chance of me dipping my hand into his pockets to see whether he's left one in there.

I always thought that it was something that people automatically do, check pockets just in case.

I'd be impressed that he put the dirty item in the basket in the first place Wink

On the one hand, I don't check pockets because I don't keep anything in mine. Women's clothes don't have useful pockets which is why I carry a bag with a purse in it.

Then again, when I come home I sort out my bag, throw away unnecessary stuff, rubbish from the DC, file receipts, put coppers in money bag for charity, silver for parking and consider if I need a different bag the next day and transfer things. So it isn't unreasonable for a bloke to simply empty his pockets!
