AIBU to pretend I have no idea how my washing maching broke to repair man?

Was really silly. DD wet the bed while sleeping in our bed. Wee all over the duvet. I washed in washing machine and the washing machine now doesn't spin. The washing machine is under guarantee but misuse of machine not covered.
We are broke so a free repair would be grand. AIBU to claim absolute ignorance to why it has stopped spinning to the repair man and hope there is no way they can tell it was overloaded?

My friend broke hers when she and her husband sat on it to have sex when it was on the spin cycle - now that might be considered misuse but they still booked a warranty call-out Grin

Lol when I read the thread title I was thinking along very different lines!!
( think final spin!!)

I once put a cherry stone heat pillow in one; they're a bit like a wheat bag but full of cherry stones, you microwave them, use as a heat pad etc etc. They are washable but I think you're maybe supposed to tie it up in a pillowcase or something first - the seam of the bag split and cherry stones were violently catapulted around and into the workings of the machine. When I came back from shopping I found one very unhappy sounding washing machine whirring away in what seened to be its death throes.

It was a rented house so I had to fess up to the letting agency what I'd done - there's not really a sensible alternative explaination about why your washing machine innards are full of cherry stones! Grin

My washing machine has taken a double duvet and cleaned it well
It has even taken a king size
so its not really unreasonable to expect a washing machine to take a duvet in this day and age

have you got an accessable point where you can check whats in the pump?
Mine has a litttle box at teh front, I;ve found coins, hay and wound up string in there

ratspeaker · 14/05/2011 22:00

jaspants it was unreasonable
the wife should have been sitting on the washing machine

who needs the husband then...

When I was a teenager, I was the only one in when the repair man turned up to sort out the awful noise the washing machine was making (Mum out on school run). I could not cope with the embarrassment when the man extracted the underwiring from one of the cups from my Mum's (enormous) bras!

OP - I would say nothing myself.

I doubt they'll ask but if he did, I would just say bedding.

But can I just say I never knew you could wash duvets in your own washing machine? Do you just put it on a normal cycle?? I've been dragging all our duvets to the bloody dry-cleaners and they've never said a bloody word!

Our washing repair man is a friend and i regularly plead ignorance when he finds money, rags etc in pump!! When our old machine died i was convinced it was my fault for not emptying out pockets again as the drum wouldn't turn, felt like something was stuck inside. He said it wasn't my fault just general wear and tear. Wouldn't have thought what you did was the cause anyway but i just wouldn't mention it.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 14/05/2011 23:04

dont mention it - it could be that the springy thing has come off, but if it is under warranty call them out. Who knows what caused it? You are not the repair person, it isnt fraud, despite what some may say. Hmm

I dont wash my duvets in my machine, take them to dry cleaners to get them done. Saves time and hassle factor.
