to ask how many of you cringe when you see/hear video recordings of yourself?

Had to watch some video recordings today which included me and I hated watching/hearing myself:

My voice sounds nothing like I think it does - [cringe]
I slouch even more than I realised [cringe]
I had VPL [even bigger cringe]

So tomorrow:
I try not to sound too "drawly" (is that a word?)
I stand up straighter
I wear a skirt

I've always wanted to sound like Honor Blackman - well as much as someone with a lazy Scottish drawl could sound like Honor Blackman!!

Sounding bossy isn't so bad though Punkatheart if you are happy with the tone and timbre.

Oh yes, here, me! Horrendous!! Good thing most other people don't analyse and see us the way we see/hear ourselves!!

I remember once doing a recorded play at high school in a drama class. It wasn't the greatest of serious videos, but there was one part where I flashed my knickers while being dragged around by the ankles by school mates. All in all though, it was more like a comedy sketch Grin.

Salmotrutta I'm beginning to the my DCs will wonder if they had a Mum when they get older and look at recordings/photos, cos it's always me filming/taking them. Sad

cassierosse · 12/05/2011 20:24

...think my DCs.....sorry !

Salmotrutta · 12/05/2011 20:33

cassie - don't miss out on those photos!
It's lovely to have them (even if you do think "Gawd, my hair's a mess" or whatever) and you can't avoid them just because you hate being photographed. Sad
Your kids will appreciate them when they are older and so will you. And I say this as someone who hates being photographed - but as I said earlier I'm learning how to pose a bit better so that I look more like "me" if that makes sense?

Yes, it does make sense. See, people should just take pics, rather than getting people to pose. If I am unaware, I'm fine, it's when you get the camera in your face "smile"........urgh, it's horrible.

Hair's always a mess anyway, so that's irrelevant ! Blush

peeriebear · 12/05/2011 20:43

I look like a manly woman or transwoman in most videos/photos. Broad shoulders, my dad's nose, strong jawline. My voice sounds either strident and crowy or too deep to me. In the flesh I am not so bad! A sculptor once said he'd love to try and do a bust of my head (I used to be his wife's life model for her classes) because my profile was entirely different/unrelated? Confused to my full face. he seemed to think I would be a real challenge.

PinkToeNails · 12/05/2011 20:57

I know what you mean cassie I hate posed for photos...my face always does something strange when it sees a camera

borderslass · 12/05/2011 20:59

I still have a thick scouse accent on recordings although its never been really noticeable otherwise.

MercurySoccer · 12/05/2011 21:29

Oh I agree! I appear to be a slouchy person, much fatter than I feel, with a weird voice.

springbokscantjump · 12/05/2011 21:42

I sound like I've just stepped off the plane from the deepest darkest part of the transvaal in SA. I really don't think my accent is that strong but jeez on tape? I also talk so fast. I also say 'mortified' more often than you would think possible in a conversation.

I am now learning to hold my head in such a way so that my double chin isn't so noticeable in photos.

annapolly · 12/05/2011 21:45

When I was 17 and at college I was filmed for the first time and I was absolutely shocked at what I looked like. I couldn't believe I was so slim and thought I was fat.

Now when I see myself I cannot believe I am so fat, I thought I was slimmer.

Oh well at least I am more optimistic.
