I have 2 generally robust DSs. I had to pick DS1 (age 11) from school in the middle of the day 2 weeks ago because he was "feeling unwell". He was off for 2 days. Then last week his brother aged 9 was off for 2 days (after vomiting once, spectacularly, in his bedroom - it was on the bed, on the carpet, on the sofa, on the cushion, on the trainset ...). Today I got another call from school to pick up DS1 in the middle of the day because he was "feeling sick".

My employer prides themselves on being flexible, equal opps etc but I didn't half feel dreadul phoning my manager and asking if I could leave and work from home in the afternoon again (don't worry, am finished work for the day now!). There is a good reason why I don't normally work from home - I just don't get as much done.

I was a complete grump with DS1 on the way home but really it's the 3rd time in as many weeks. Aaargh.

AIBU to feel like just packing in my job????

Is there nobody else who you could occasionally use as a back-up for these types of emergency? dad, gran, aunt?

YANBU

I have two with chicken pox at the min. One has just got to the scabby stage so allowed out without infecting anyone after 9 days of being housebound. Now I have just noticed spots on the small one... so housebound again. It is so frustrating!

When i was working we had a spate of illnesses that required me to leave early/take days off. Very embarrassing when it was happening all the time.

I really feel for you!

me too: easter royal wedding voting ear infection, vomiting bug and off again at the end of the month will they ever have a full week at school again?

I quit work for the same reason. It is pure hell.

Thanks all, it's nice to get a bit of sympathy [sniff!]

Their Dad works 20 miles away, so not so great at picking them up in an emergency. He does do his share of looking after them when they are sick - but we have one down at a time which means the other parent has to knock off early and do the school run (normally we alternate). Nearest rellie lives an hour away - she comes down with whatever illness anyone else has and it just floors her, I daren't ask! I wonder if my work could just go a step further and have an Infirmary for sick dependants ...!

I know, I know, they are my children ...
