Hi
Getting married in September this year.Going to in SW area(although I live on outskirts of London) lovely registry ofice.
Need to find a photographer.

Been in touch with this one

www.proimagestudiophtography.net

What do you think?

Don't understand how whole process works really. The guy on the phone aid I would need to pay a £200 deposit over the phone.Hate things like that incase they're not genuine!

Sorry for it being a Wedding thread!

We used www.theodorewoodphotography.com/information.php 16 years ago. He was excellent, really lovely to have around and the results were so good that four separate friends used him, it was lovely to bump into him over the next few year!

Needanewname · 11/05/2011 18:14

I love Fergus Noons photos.

I have a friend who is a wedding photographer, will get his website details for you to have a look at

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/05/2011 18:19

I know this sounds loony, but do you have a friend or a relative that has an interest/can do photography?? Is there a college nearby or a independent photo shop who will know or have local contacts or a listings mag (Grapevine??)

I know it sounds daft, but if I look back on the amount of money I spent on my photographs and all the stressing I did to get good ones, they have just ended up in an album at the bottom of my drawers ...

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/05/2011 18:26

My posting above doesn't answer the posed question Blush but perhaps the or a neighbouring town has some independent photo shops/listings so at least the photographer might be able to fit the bill

JamieAgain · 11/05/2011 18:33

That website would not attract me in the slightest.

Sorry. As you were.

JamieAgain · 11/05/2011 18:33

i mean the OP's one

Wanting payment over the phone is a no no - don't do it!

I'd recommend Gavin Hart (London based - look in google?) he does lovely photos

byanymeans · 11/05/2011 19:14

I friend had a photographer for wedding very much the same looking photos, web page and set-up as far as over the phone deposit. though the bride was happy with the photos in mine and most of the guest opinion they were well bad and very very same looking. Not to mention that the photographer drunk alot more then she should have on the bride and grooms tab.
Not that this is the same person (I don't think) but I would go for some one who has been recommended and a bit of research and snooping on the net doesn't hurt when your paying that much for some one on your big day.
Best of luck by the way :)

Oh and don;t forget to let us know if you choose anyone from mumsnet!!!!

Booandpops · 11/05/2011 20:43

I'm a wedding photographer in herts so a bit out of area. :-)
I have not heard of paying a deposit before a personal meeting
That's seems very unusual to me.
A deposit is taken once the photographer have met and signed a booking form or contract.

Helpmedecidepls · 12/05/2011 10:25

Be careful you are 100% sure what you are buying.
I was very surprised to discover that many wedding photography companies have a large number of photographers working for them and that they were unable to say exactly who would be taking my photos (or even show me a portfolio from the actual photographer). The best they could do was show me generic portfolios that they felt represented their style.

In the end I used a local one-man-band photographer. I met him, looked at his portfolios, talked about what I wanted etc. His wife was also a photographer and she came along and took our B&W reportage shots at no extra cost. I felt much more in control of the whole process than I did with some of the bigger companies.

We had nicole griffin at ours. We booked really late (we arranged the whole thing in about 8 weeks!), paid one price, and she sent us a disc with all the pictures on.
We were so thrilled with the pictures I recommend to everyone.

Northeastgirl · 12/05/2011 11:23

This isn't really an AIBU question, so I would say YABU for posting it here.

But have a lovely wedding and I hope the photos are good

JanMorrow · 12/05/2011 11:46

Have you tried You and Your Wedding? They have a good forum where you might get recommendations.

Andrew is great and a lovely guy to work with. Very easy to get on with and makes you feel very relaxed. He is also happy to the travel most places not just Enfield and London as it says on the website.

Have a great wedding!!

If you are looking in the SW area check out www.mattfryerphotography.co.uk
He is amazing. He is not cheap but his photos are amazing. He also offers packages that include pre wedding shoots.
