Please help as I need to order the correct size,I measured the width of the window which is about

62 inches and a 90 inch drop 70 will not touch the ground,or 90 inch width,90 drop arghh.

Runs of and hides, awaits a flaming Mumsnet style.

Are you buying heavies or nets?

If you are buying nets you measure the window, if you are buying heavies you have to allow for the pole which is sometimes between 3 to 4" above the window recess.

If the width is 62 you need a width curtain of at least 1.5 times that, do you want the curtains to touch the ground?

If you have no pole you can just raise it.

Ready made curtains? The drop you've measured plus the width should be twice your window, at least. Three times will give you fuller curtains, so either 120 inches or 180 inches.

Although you will find they are measured in centimetres :)

Bump
Or would you go for the second?.

From my past experience working for Rosebys you need at least double the width of your curtain track in fabric. Therefore, if you buy 66 inch wide, that will be about double (each curtain will be 66 inches wide). If you want your curtains to look fuller and more expensive then you could go for 90 wide - this way you'll have a lot of gather even when they are closed.

Hope this helps :)

Another former curtain shop worker. The required width actually depends on the heading. For most ready made curtains then you want double the width of your pole/track in total. However - watch out - most curtains the sizes listed are per curtain, in which case you want the individual width to be roughly the same as your track.

For tab tops - the ones with loops of fabric going over the pole - then you only want about 1.5 times the width as they don't work as well very full, they don't sit properly and the tabs all bunch up so you struggle to open them far enough.
