School sports day

This is from last year but it still grates me and I would like to be prepared this sports day! Another post about PE reminded me.

OK DS is 7 and has gross motor skill problems (SN in MS), last sports day he came home very anxious because he was in the sack race. I bought him a kit and we practiced. He was unable to "get it" jumping up, no problem, jumping forward, keeping hold of the sack, and staying on his feet no way.

I went in school and discussed with his teacher if there was an easier race he could be moved into. "don't worry luvvy we have put all the children who struggle in the same race" WTF

AIBU that you recognise less physically able children put them in their own race and choose the sack race.

Inclusion my ass!

Shock and open mouthed at the teacher.

Unless she meant they're putting evenly matched DC in the same race, but just ballsed up the way she said it.

Which you were kind of asking for anyway, ie to move your son because he couldn't get the sack race technique.

I think the school have tried, in a heavy handed manner.

Do you want your DS to be in a running race with the most athletic children and come last and be embarrassed? Sounds like the school was just trying to avoid that sort of scenerio.

My DS has mild SN and he was put in a race with kids a bit younger than him. I was pleased.

Yes, I see your point, but if you are going to think and plan, as to put evenly matched DC in their own race. You would also hope that train of thought would continue and arrive at the most suitable, even enjoyable race??

Plain old race, bean bag on head race, bean bag in bucket race, relay race but not the sack or skipping race.

TAs usually help the few kids like OP's, is pretty common and keeps them part of the event.
