to want to set fire to fascinators at weddings?

I know that I might be being a tiny bit unreasonable but they really annoy me. Silly, curly-wurly and a bit, well, naff Blush. And the name 'fascinator' - arghhh! Obviously, I'm fascinated by them, otherwise I wouldn't be posting, but for all the wrong reasons Grin.

Surely, chose to either wear a hat or not Hmm?

Oh, I find them interesting too. I am not from the UK and we don't wear them at weddings. But then we don't wear hats either so it's quite a (literally) foreign concept to me.
Some fascinators are gorgeous but others just look plain stupid. I like it when you look like you are wearing a nice flower or whatever but some look as if you put roadkill on your head.

My favourite part of the royal wedding was looking at the hats Blush

I think they are completely naff and look totally ridiculous - I would never, ever wear one. Looks like your hat is too small, actually belongs to a doll, or you're some sort of children's party entertainer. Wear a proper hat or nothing.(on your head, that is)

CurrySpice · 10/05/2011 17:59

OOOO YABVU - I love them!

I'm fascinated by headgear that looks as if the wearer was able to scrape together enough for the decoration but couldn't afford the actual hat.

But what I can't understand is why such insubstantial millinery creations are so expensive, unless the price of elastic and hairpins has gone through the roof?

Funtimewincies · 10/05/2011 18:18

I'd like to offer for the prosecution Grin...

don't move, I'll get a swatter

suitable for a beekeeper's wedding perhaps?

So naff they need banning. I can't see why people don't just wear a hat...a fascinator is neither here nor' there...they look like a hat which is ashamed to be the full monty...

disgustedperson · 10/05/2011 18:26

yeah right

Mrsfluff · 10/05/2011 19:28

I rather like that one Disgusted Grin I'm planning to have one for my Niece's wedding - hats just don't suit me, but some fascinators do.

Funtimewincies · 10/05/2011 19:37

I think that this one is roosting in Richmond Park Grin.

AIBU to snigger like a child at the web address in Funtime's link? Hazelshats.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 10/05/2011 19:44

90 squid for a few feathers?!!! I can buy a gaggle of geese for a lot less than that. Case proved, Funtimewincies.

Are you absolutely sure, MrsFluff?

I'd advise you to get at least 6 independent opinions to guard against Beatrice syndrome.

I'm sure that she's a lovely lady although I doubt that any nearby chickens feel the same!

YANBU - my mum calls them rotavators, I see what she means........

ExitPursuedByALamb · 10/05/2011 19:45

Oh I don't know - I wore a fascinator to a wedding a few years ago and loved it. In fact, I am going to a wedding in June and tried another one on today, and it looked rather lovely, but I do think they are rather over done now, so I have decided to recycle a hat from a few years ago.

The main benefit of fascinators though is that you don't get hat hair.

Buda · 10/05/2011 19:49

Oh God I hate them.

Before my sister's wedding a few years ago I took my Mum to a hat-hire place to hire a hat. The owner kept trying to steer her to fascinators. I kept saying they look ridiculous. Like you have something dropped on your head. Owner of shop was not amused!

Thankfully Mum saw sense and got a lovely hat.

Funtimewincies · 10/05/2011 19:49

I'm probably secretly jealous as I suit neither hat nor artisically draped roadkill fascinators Grin.

I think that to 'do a Beatrice' will be part of the lingo very soon.

Well Really, TooManyBlossoms!! Given the seriousness of the subject under discussion, your remark is uncalled for and tres juvenile
