AIBU re: calling the police?

I live in the top floor corner flat with a full view of the surrounding streets. It's opposite two primary schools (different religious denominations, hence proximity). It's a family area - there are still lots of children around at the moment.

About twenty minutes ago I was on the phone to DP and looked out of the window to see a drug deal happening underneath the CCTV pole on the corner. There were three late teens, no children around at that exact moment (but parents waiting and more walked past a few minutes later).

I was a bit Hmm (and admittedly laughed a little as the teens were swaggering and trying to look 'hard'). The likelihood this will happen again is fairly high. Should I call the police next time?

Part of me (and I suspect DP will agree) thinks the police have better things to be doing than catching petty drugs deals and without names it will be hard. The other part (the part that used to be a councillor & had to attend meetings with the police - different town) thinks they'd want to know.

In the interests of non-drip feeding I had to call the police at the weekend about vandalism & dangerous behaviour (the first time I've done so) and DP was v disapproving as he said 'they're just kids' (they were at least 18). His disapproval is putting me off calling again. I also have no time for people who waste police time. Any opinions please? WIBU to call if it happens again? I think if I discuss this with DP it will become heated.

i would call the non-emergency number and report it

that way if you call again they will have that on record, and it also means that while nothing can be done right now they can maybe increase any patrols they do round that way, or start going by now and then so therei s more of a police "presence"

Call your Community Police. Sounds like what's required is a friendly chat rather than a SWAT team...

Thank you... that's sort of what I was thinking Chil. I mean, it looked really minor and nothing I haven't seen elsewhere (new in this area) but on the other hand the community police officers at my old home liked to keep an eye on things (and they made one or two spectacular drugs busts Grin).

Call made to the non-emergency number. Spoke to a lovely woman who's handing the info over to their intelligence team to put it into a map of the area.
