I gain so much weight when I eat the real chinese food because it is so oily. How do the women stay so tiny? I can eat Thai, Indian and other foods while visiting the country, but even in Singapore.... I find th e chinese food to be very greasy and unhealthy.

I like the westernised version of chinese food better. Strangely enough though, I dont like Thai, Malay, Indian, etc made overseas...

I remember cow oesophagus being offered at one restaurant in China. Mmm mmm. Also chicken feet everywhere and of course dog and cat.
I guess though meat is meat.
I lost tons of weight in China mainly through walking everywhere and having the squits on a regular basis.

But crispy fried tofu was gorgeous, never found it the same anywhere else!

disco that sounds horrible. (the cow oesophagus I mean).
I've had a real craving recently for all things Chinese and have discovered that there is a tiny Chinese supermarket just two streets away that I never knew about. I am in heaven. I am living on wontons at the moment. [drools] They are so delicious. And lovely and healthy.
I bought some proper Chinese soy sauce too and it's delicious. Far less salty than the Amoy versions and it has really subtle flavours.

Now I am craving xiaolongbao and jiaozi dumplings, and crispy fried stinky tofu with chilli sauce :o.

HengshanRoad - if you like hotpot, I can recommend Chuan Meizi on the corner of Yan'an and Yunnan Roads. Sooooo need to revisit Shanghai :).
