if I complain about this driver?

Walking back from school this morning, I cross at a zebra crossing, part way across I have to jump back as a van goes straight over it, driver gives me a filthy look but makes no attempt to stop.

The van has got the company logo all over it - should I complain about it?

Part of me thinks, it's spiteful and could get her into a lot of trouble, but the other half thinks that it could have been children who were crossing who may not have been able to react in time and the consequences of that could be unthinkable.

Yes call the company and report.
Probably will not do anything but report it anyway. I don't suppose there were cameras on the crossing?
I would also report her to the police on the non-emergency number. Not sure if would do anything, but the police may have a word with the company.

chrisonabike · 09/05/2011 10:14

I'd report by email requesting a response.

Punkatheart · 09/05/2011 10:16

I would report too. You are an adult but what if that had been a child? She is representing her company the way she drives.

EmmaBemma · 09/05/2011 10:17

Yes, you should report her. At the very least she sounds like she could do with brushing up on her highway code - from what you're saying, she seemed to think she had right of way. But driving at you so that you have to jump back as she speeds across, not braking at all - that's criminally dangerous.

aldiwhore · 09/05/2011 10:20

I would report her, I hate bad drivers, especially on zebra crossings and am known to shout loudly at (and sometimes chase) those who don't stop. Aside from the fact I rather enjoy shouting at stupid people, I am doing a public service. It could have been a child, she could have killed you, she needs reporting. Not to get her into trouble, but to make her think and to help the company avoid being sued, they'll thank you.

LoveLeonardCohen · 09/05/2011 10:24

Yes report driver, it's dangerous and agressive driving, no need for it and could cause an accident next time.

sprinkles77 · 09/05/2011 10:39

Yes, report her. If she is a repeat offender and people continue to report her, hopefully something will be done, either in terms of training, or ultimately her job.

Wilfimina · 09/05/2011 10:55

Totally report her as she has to stop by law i thought if someone is already crossing when you get their in your vehicle.

I once saw a really sweet looking old lady flick the v's at a car that didnt stop for her at a zebra crossing ( i was stopped waiting on the other side) it made me laugh for ages as it was so incongruous. She was so smartly dressed and looked like butter wouldnt melt.

aldiwhore · 09/05/2011 11:03

I think the law is that even if a pedestrian hasn't started crossing, but is waiting, then you have to stop. Whatever it is, I always slow as if to stop, as the zebra crossing nearest me is right next to some sheltered accomodation and opposite Sainsbury's... for slow moving people they can sure take you by surprise.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/05/2011 11:07

If someones waiting you stop. You dont pull off until they have reached the other side. (not just when they have cleared the side of the road you are on)
If they are on the crossing then you stop, sounds to me like she was going to fast aswell.

QuackQuackBoing · 09/05/2011 11:14

Yep report to the company and the non emergency police number, Wa ha ha ha ha! (evil laugh)

DaisyLovesMetronidazole · 09/05/2011 11:46

I really wouldn't bother.

theDudesmummy · 09/05/2011 11:48

I am one of these annoying people who will always phone up the company if a company driver is behaving badly on the road. So I would say defintely yes.

Stricnine · 09/05/2011 11:52

I would report her ... I got hassled by a very aggressive lorry driver one morning and stopped to phone his work (was emblazoned all down the side of the truck!) ... the chap I eventually spoke to (boss man?) was very glad to know - he'd suspected this guy wasn't a model employee, and had had a few phone calls about his driving...

QuackQuackBoing · 09/05/2011 12:00

I really wouldn't bother

What even though next time they could run some one over and kill them or leave them disabled. A child even?

ajandjjmum · 09/05/2011 12:04

The law is that you have to stop if someone looks as if they might be about to use the crossing - I know as DS got a minor in his driving test, as he thought the people were just dithering. Grin

We have (sadly) had a couple of calls about one of our drivers, who is no longer with us, for inconsiderate driving. I would want to know - she was representing her company.

You might also like to tell them that you are considering reporting her to the Police, as that might get a more effective response.

Jaspants · 09/05/2011 12:26

Wow an almost unanimous AIBU. Right I shall compose a carefully worded mail. I don't want to get her into trouble, just to make her drive more carefully.

Thanks for your replies.

From direct gov

Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing
look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads
do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching
be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing
A zebra crossing with a central island is two separate crossings (see Rule 20).

SnowieBear · 09/05/2011 12:32

If it were one of the vehicles at my company, I'd definitely would like to hear about it.

(And I'd be getting the whip out... driving inconsiderately is not on, and doing it sporting our logo is a firing offence)
