can't bloody stand it. I am the only cook in my house, I slave over it, the kids whinge, then I don't want it.

Hate hate hate it, its so bloody boring.

so instead I made a rather nice spaghetti and tomatoes meatball dish thingy with added courgettes, onions, aubergines and garlic.

and the kids and dp ate it without moaning

We have a roast every Sunday. When my kids were little, it was the one meal they were guaranteed to scoff. It can be a hassle to get the timings right at the end, but if you are happy to let the meat relax for 30-45 minutes, and make your mash in advance, there is little to stress over. Get your kids involved in the preparation as soon as they are able.

We cooked three chickens today so thatnwe have leftovers for a couple of days.

It's not obligatory to have a roast. It seems that the OP and her family prefer not to have a roast dinner,at least not every week,so it makes sense to make other meals that they will enjoy instead.

God, I love a roast. Love it. But I don't cook it and my dp is an ace cook and varies it each week. Would be my Last Meal request.

And, yes, it's one of the few meals my fussy 6 yr old will scoff up and beg for chicken skin . But don't cook it if you hate doing it. My mum used to hate doing it

My sunday roasts are the best. Mil and fil come round, DH cooks it (he's the cook in our house and he does a great roast) and MIL washes up (because she's greatful she hasnt had to cook). Win win for me Grin

Despite not eating meat I actually do like a traditional roast - I love all the trmmings and the veggies and the Yorkshire puddings. DH and DD love the roast meat too.

However I rarely make a roast on a Sunday. We tend to eat out at lunch and have a snack tea on a Sunday. I ometimes make a roat type meal during the week, but not every week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/05/2011 20:28

Hardly ever have it here, I find it a right faff, despite being a pretty good cook, I seem to have a blank spot when it comes to roasting chickens, mine always end up underdone and have to go back in delaying everything. Uses every pan and dish in the kitchen, I never have enough room (work surface tiny). Also DS won't touch a mouthful of any of it and the rest of us aren't that bothered either. So YANBU.

My son insists on a Sunday Roast! It is the only meal we eat together so I don't mind making it, tis the washing up that does me though.

sjm123 · 08/05/2011 20:35

We all love a roast, with potatoes cooked in beef dripping and goose fat and gravy made with pretty much entirely red wine. Obviously that's far too much (and fat) to do too often so we have it about once every 2 months!

Kids are with ex on a sunday anyway so I get to have cheese toasties for dinner instead Grin

sheepgomeep · 08/05/2011 21:18

reindeerbollocks, sounds good to me Grin who's bringing the wine.

I always end up washing up too, really pisses me off

But I can't shout as ds did hoover and mop the floors this morning without being asked. and dp did wrap the kids butties in clingfilm for me when he got in from work Hmm for school

In our house there is no roast in the months that do not contain an 'R' in their spelling :)
