darrell I never omplain about spelling etc on Mumsnet; because I dont wantus to become exclusive. Mumsnet works because it accepts everyone.

I use capitals and punctuate, but if I was typing with one hand I'd probably leave the capitals, and if I'm not sure where the apostrophe goes I leave them out.

I like slang, and I mostly write as I speak.

It irritates me, and I tend to judge the poster as sloppy or indifferent.
But it's internet chat, not an assessed piece or a job application.

Some posters type quickly to save time. It doesn't bother me, I don't really understand the problem. Do you write capitals if you have a live chat (facebook, msn etc.)? I'm sure that would slow the conversation down.
Mumsnet is a online forum, not a punctuation test. As long posters can understand what other posters are writing, that's all that matters.

Scousy, Darrell isn't talking about spelling. Even the poorest linguists surely can manage to stick a capital at the start of a sentence?

that's why they moved the ' from shift+2 to below the @ - so you don't have to use the shift key to get it.

Ladyshapes - they mean the same thing but 'while' is the accepted form.
There's never any reason to use 'whilst' - people assume that variation is the more traditional use of the word but, actually, it isn't.

I find posts more engaging and easier to read if there are stop/start points etc.

Whilst isn't older - people assume so but it's not the case.
