to think that no to AV doesn't mean yes to FPTP?

Yes, I understand thats what the effect of AV is, but people didn't vote FOR FPTP.

I wonder what the result would have been if the referendum offered three choices - FPTP, AV and PR.

I know where I would have voted, and my option wasn't available.

Bluemoonrising · 06/05/2011 21:59

The media seem to be running with the idea that people voted for FPTP. It's pissing me off!

In theory YANBU but in practice that isn't the way politics works.

Numberfour · 06/05/2011 22:01

is PR proportional representation? sorry, not All That Bright sometimes.

MumInBeds · 06/05/2011 22:02

Very hard to know, it would certainly be interesting.

I think we would get the same end result but with a smaller margin if the question yesterday was tweaked just a tiny bit asking us to put our cross against either AV or FPTP. Actively selecting FPTP rather than rejecting AV.

edam · 06/05/2011 22:04

Not in theory. But in practice... We weren't asked what we thought of FPTP, just whether we wanted AV.

Stupid, stupid Clegg. Sold his soul for a mess of pottage.

Clayhead · 06/05/2011 22:07

Exactly - I didn't want FPTP or AV but I couldn't express that in my vote!

Bennifer · 06/05/2011 22:51

Doesn't really matter now. It's been decided, it's going to be FPTP for at least a generation
