to ask if I can have this busstop removed?

I have spotted the perfect forever house.

It has a busstop right outside it, meaning that the great unwashed will be resting their bottoms on moi wall.

Do you think the local council would remove it if I asked naicely?

A bus shelter? For people who go on public transport?

I think the only solution is a shotgun Grin

Kara My mum would applaud that.

When the council put the road sign on concrete posts on the pavement outside her house she thought it looked common.

She nagged my dad into smashing it down in the dead of night with a sledgehammer and he disposed of the bits. He was terrified he'd be found out but more afraid of my mum.

The council didn't notice for years. Luckily when they did replace it they did it outside someone elses house, otherwise she'd have made my poor dad do it again.

I have a 'posh' bus stop pretty much outside my house as well. A few people on the road have put sharp arrow wall decorations on their walls to keep people from sitting. I don't bother as the walls on the road aren't at good sitting height anyway, the most we get is people leaning on it (and typically those aren't people waiting for the bus, but locals who've stopped for a natter by the post box).

And actually, I'm very grateful for those who have low unpointy walls. Sitting on a wall is far safer than sitting on the kerb, and I've had a few dizzy spells get to me where it was sit down now or fall down. Practically saved my life once, being able to sit on a wall for 5 minutes, when I was walking to the shop.

I have a bus stop directly outside my house and it doesn't bother me at all. Very useful for DD getting the bus to school. People do lean on the wall, and occasionally drop litter over, but it is no big deal.

ivykaty44 · 06/05/2011 15:44

till the wall falls down with someone on it - then they sue you for not keeping the wall to standard for bigger bottoms Grin and yes it will and could happen its funny but not for you!

Housemum · 06/05/2011 17:26

If it's your ideal house, go and see it when there are likely to be a lot of people waiting for the bus, see how you feel inside the house (and how much litter as the owners won't be able to hide it). Then if you still love it look really disappointed about the bus route, huff a lot and beat them down on price ;)

Housemum has already made the correct suggestion - Pyracantha - nature's barbed wire, but with attractive berries Grin

Lived for 20 years with a bus stop outside our house and on the opposite side of the road. Made travelling VERY convenient. Queues of people caused no problems at all. A large holly hedge planted next to wall sorted the wall sitters Grin

HalfTermHero · 06/05/2011 17:42

You need to do it the Roald Dahl/The Twits way.

Put lots of nice super glue on the wall then any idle bus stop buggers will be stuck there by their fat asses! They won't sit on your wall again Wink

The resting bottoms won't be your issue, the fag butts will. We have a (very handy for me) bus stop a few doors down, and I do feel for the people in the house it's outside - it looks like someone's tipped a pub ashtray out on their bit of pavement.

Just remembered the downside of our bus stop (we also have one across the road), as it is Friday evening and the weather is balmy. Drunken teenager tend to sit in them at 3am when they are trudging home from the pubs (or wherever) and have long and boring conversations. Think it must be their first stop for a proper sit down between the village pubs and the estate.
