YSL Touche Eclat is rubbish

I've heard all this stuff about how apparently it's the wonder-product etc.

Well. Tried it today in John Lewis and did not think much of it at all. Didn't do a massive amount for my insomnia-induced dark circles, and was not noticeably better that Benefit erase a paste (also not brilliant) and the No 7 one (probably the best of the 3).

Has anyone found this? How did it get such a great reputation?

I used to by the clinique one - airbrush something I think it's called. That was good.

When I gave up work and switched to cheapy stuff I tried the collection 2000 cheapy cheapy cheap as chips version and that is also good!

Clytaemnestra · 04/05/2011 23:03

Last time I had my make up done professionally I was told that you shouldn't just put touche eclat on skin, you should put concealer on first, then the highlighter for proper coverage of dark circles.

I use MAC concealer then a tiny sweep of Erase Paste and it works a treat.

ohmyfucksy · 04/05/2011 23:05

Actual concealer just sort of sits on your skin and looks weird though

Several of my DFs swear by Touche Eclat but it doesn't float my boat.

When I'm suffering from lack of sleep my hero product is Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener which I apply very sparingly around the inner corners of my eyes to give an instant 'wide-awake' look - or so I convince myself on a good day; other days no amount of slap can make me look anything other than a knackered old bag.

whackamole · 04/05/2011 23:44

Yep it is bollocks.

I'm using a Natural Collection one that cost me £1.99 in Boots and covers up the undereyes much better.

The best one was Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer - discontinued this year Sad

SparklingGenius · 04/05/2011 23:57

I got the wet flannel thing too. Horrid.

GetOrfMoiCase · 05/05/2011 00:01

I have bored banged on in style and beauty about this for yonks.

It is NOT a concealer. If you have purple shadows under your eyes it will highlight them, NOT hide them away.

By Terry Touche Velouté

Designed by the same person as designed Touche Eclat (some bird called Terry natch) but actually designed to cover dark shadows.

I have used it for years and it is the only thing that works. Touche eclat wonderful to highlight under brow bone. But not to conceal.

Emperors new clothes indeed.

FlaminGreatGallah · 05/05/2011 00:01

Has anyone ever tried the famed Preparation H trick to tighten the skin under the eyes?

My GBF had a method for dark under-eyes when he was in his twenties. Tanning salon, tanning salon, tanning salon, tanning salon and tanning salon with goggles. He had white under-eye colour and looked fabulous. He is regretting it now of course but has no children, plenty of sleep when he wants to sleep and lots of disposable income to make amends with.

GetOrfMoiCase · 05/05/2011 00:03

Benefit - another bugbear of mine. Prettily packaged rubbish marketed at people who know naff all about make up and/or teenagers.

GetOrfMoiCase · 05/05/2011 00:04

Prep H trick a misnomer as the active ingredient which shrinks blood vessels is not in it any more.

GetOrfMoiCase · 05/05/2011 00:04

But it did used to work.

FlaminGreatGallah · 05/05/2011 00:07

It can't be much good for what it was intended for then Confused

oldandpastit · 05/05/2011 00:09

nijinsky where do you get Beauty Flash Balm from ?...my face needs all the help it can get!!

fit2drop · 05/05/2011 00:09

I swear by it, but I am an old bird. Have had shadows under my eyes for years and since using it have had lots of complimentary remarks (one cheeky git made me feel greateven asked if I had surgery) Maybe it just works better on old bags Grin whackamole I have just thrown out the Maybelline Mousse one cos I thought it was absolute crap not right for me
Must admit the No. 7 one is very good too, but I have always like No 7 products and always end up going back to them no matter what new miracle product comes out

fit2drop · 05/05/2011 00:12

pmsl wtf!!

Again10 · 05/05/2011 00:40

mine went funny smelling too.

Lauren Hutton's face disk is excellent ,the concealers particularly .

It is not that easy to get hold of in the UK ,BUT it can be done :)

There are some sellers on Ebay(worldwide shipping) and googling it will bring up a place that ships to the UK . Interworld I think ?

get the right shade, and it really works ...

kf1979 · 05/05/2011 04:32

Clinique Airbrush Concealer. Nothing else can compare! And agree Touche Eclat not great and way too expensive.

There was a whole bit on concealers and highlighters on the Guardian website recently - step-by-step videos and suchlike which was quite useful as I discovered I'd been using it wrong all along!

Go there!!!

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 05/05/2011 07:13

First came across touché a few years ago when I was having some photos done professionally. The photographers assistant applied some to cover my post birth, will I never sleep again, dark under eye circles. She put it over foundation and very sparingly. The photos were absolutely fine and my eyes looked great. Used it ever since, I'm sure other products have come along since then but it's the one I always use. I think it depends on skin tone and how it's applied, only use a tiny amount, it lasts for ages.

hairfullofsnakes · 05/05/2011 07:39

It is rubbish especially for yellow based tones

Best concealors? Benefit and bobbi brown ones

Deflatedballoonbelly · 05/05/2011 07:41

I love Touche Eclat, went to buy some the other day and asked for shade number 1. The assistant looked at me and squealed 'thats really pale'

I just gawped at her, brushing my very red hair out of my face and scratching at my so white Im blue chin feeling bamboozled at what could make her squeal like that. Idiot.

Silverstar2 · 05/05/2011 07:54

I found Touche Eclat didn't really work, and also got the old dishcloth/flannel smell, which is just nasty after a month and you have paid 25 quid for it.

I like Body Shop make-up.

Buda · 05/05/2011 08:04

Apparently Aldo do a version of Touche Eclat which is just as good.

GetOrf - I ended up in SpaceNK in Chester over Easter (with my very patient 9 year old DS!) and spent a fortune!!! I blame you! Got the By Terry primer and tinted moisturiser. Will get the foundation next time but am using an Armani one at the moment which is good. Of course DS noticed how much it all came to and reported back to DH in front of MIL. Blush I seem to have gotten away with it so far!

sausagesandmarmelade · 05/05/2011 08:06

Like Bobbi Brown's concealer, Lemonaid....and I have a touche eclat which I only use for special....

Not good for photographs tho apparently as the light reflection can give you that panda effect
