To thinks shops should have some neutral baby clothes on offer

I'm trying to be the doting auntie to be and buy a little gift for my sisters first baby due next month. She's having a bit of a rotten time and she spoilt my mob at easter.

However, due to the positioning of the baby at the scan the baby will be a surprise one, so how can I buy something for him/her if there is nothing apart from sleepsuit and vests in neutral colours or blinking cartoon characters.

Where on earth have all the cute neutrals gone that I bought for my june baby 11 years ago.

yes I do sympathise, would be nice to find some new baby clothes in pretty/bright gender-neutral colours and designs. I guess there must be "no demand", ho hum.

laurielou · 04/05/2011 14:30

I'm expecting my first & don't know the sex. I've bought some really bright primary coloured babygrows from M&S. I think they were in the boys section, but since when has red, orange & green been just for boys?

Very colourful clothes here: www.loveitloveitloveit.co.uk/

Know what you mean. There's loads of coice out there if you know what you're having but sod all if like me you don't.

Did get a few nice things in asda including some Very Hungry Caterpillar things which were lovely and brightly coloured.

Most neutral things seem to be beige, white or cream. Boring in other words. The irrational part of my brain thinks it's a huge conspiracy to get me to fort out £100 to find out the sex of the baby. (Have to go to a private clinic to find out he sex here as the local hospital wont tell you.)

Thanks for the help. Not looking to spend too much as I'm sure I'll be hitting the shops properly when they arrive so some options are a bit out of my price range.

Just frustrating, the neutral I've seen are pastel colours, and knowing my sister she won't put a boy in anything girly.

polarn o pyret (i think that's the spelling) has nice bright things that would be ok for either sex. Also little white company has cute things, but they are a bit white / grey / beige. Oh get something other than clothes: play mat, sheepskin pram liner, mobile, changing bag....all very much unisex, will last a lot longer that the clothes.

sims2fan · 04/05/2011 15:36

Lol, it's funny how people have such different tastes. I currently have my fingers tightly crossed that I'm pregnant and if so would love to keep my baby in white clothes for at least the first month, whether a boy or a girl. I personally hate bright colours on newborns, but know lots of people love them.

Shoulddohousework · 04/05/2011 16:02

I found Boots had quite a few nice unisex bits when I was looking about a month ago (whether they are still there?) They were white with bright colours, but really nice - have a rompersuit and vests for my little boy but would look just as nice on a girl!

crazygracieuk · 04/05/2011 16:06

H and M and Gap do unisex colours.

LaWeaselIsOupaLaDouffe · 04/05/2011 16:17

I've just bought stuff today from H&M, Mothercare and Next.

You're right, there's not loads of choice, but you can find some nice things.

LaWeaselIsOupaLaDouffe · 04/05/2011 16:20

this is one of the sets i bought

LDNmummy · 04/05/2011 16:23

White or cream should suffice.

Firawla · 04/05/2011 16:24

boots unisex is nice & pumpkin ptch also sometimes have unisex like green, red etc rather than just cream

LaWeaselIsOupaLaDouffe · 04/05/2011 16:28

Oh, that reminds me that H&M had a cute long sleeved green stripy body and green velvety trousers which were really cute too.

Their website is baffling me.

But they do loads of plain bright coloured vests, tops, shorts, soft trousers etc.

HellNoSayItAintSo · 04/05/2011 16:35

Everywhere had brightly coloured "neutral" clothes, way more than there used to be. What on earth are you looking for..beige?
