What does it mean to have low body temperature? My DD (3) awoke saying she was cold with sore throat and stomach pains. She felt cold to the touch. Her thermoscan temp was 35.7 - gave her paracetamol - fifteen mins later temp was 35.5...what does it mean?? She is normally 36.5 and has never been below that. Any advice greatly received.

I do the Marie Barone method: kiss the forehead! I can't get it accurate to the nearest degree like she does but I can tell if they are too hot. :o

My normal temp is around 36-36.5. If it get's anywhere near 37.5 it's usually when I'm feeling as rough as anything and streaming with a cold.

I have fairly low BP and my normal temperature is around 35.5C. When I have a fever with a cold or something, it shoots all the way up to almost 37C. Consequently, no-one believes I am ill or fevered because that's a normal body temperature, despite the fact that I'm sat there physically shivering and feeling awful.

I'd be slightly concerned if this isn't normal for your DD, and she's looking visibly ill. If she seems fine then I'd just wrap her up warm to raise her temp a bit.

Body temps can vary according to your thyroid function. If you have an underactive thyroid or low normal thyroid function your temp will be lower. If you have other symptoms of hypothyroidism such as weight gain looking at a lettuce leaf, very slow heart rate (And not supper fit) and suffer extreme tierdness doing very little then get your bloods checked. It is a very simple condition to treat with thyroid meds but you may find your average temp stays around 35c.

I have a low body temp naturally and it’s a real problem when I’m ill. As it looks like I have a normal temp when actually I’m spikibg a fever. So frustrating when doc won’t accept that actually after 30 odd years I might have a good idea how my body works. Ended up quite seriously unwell after having retained placenta because no one would believe I had an infection.
