I have bent my ring and it is stuck on my finger how can I get it off?

The more I try and can't the more I am panicking which is really not helping me.

Is it a valuable ring?

I once had to have a ring cut off by the GP walk-in centre.

I was very Blush

BaronessVonEvenstar · 03/05/2011 21:42

Yes, hand in air and get your hand cold to reduce swelling but then, just before pulling it off, run the ring briefly under VERY HOT water to make it expand (simple physics) but not give your finger time to warm up. And some sort of oil.
good luck

kaid100 · 03/05/2011 22:52

This happened to my wife with her engagement ring. After trying various things including vaseline, soap and washing up liquid; the thing that got it off was Johnson's Baby Oil Gel.

I have decided to leave it alone for a while as suggested. I have been trying and it got more swollen so I need to let it cool down. maybe then it'll slip off easily.

I will let you know what happens.

Rofl at lube! Good suggestion SB!:o

Go to a+e. When I was an a+e doc we had a special trick that involved wrapping cotton around the ring to pull it off without cutting the ring. Also agree with hand in the air strap it up with a scarp and use an ice pack

Notsohotanymore · 03/05/2011 23:09

baby oil

BaronessVonEvenstar · 03/05/2011 23:10

have just read about the cotton trick...was about to try it....will let you know!

I'm a jeweller- leave it alone. If it's not painful- leave it till tomorrow- nip along to a jewellers and get it snipped off. If it's silver they can then solder it back together for you and un-squash it. It's about £10 to do.

If it's painful and causing huge amounts of swelling go to a&e now.

BaronessVonEvenstar · 03/05/2011 23:40

29 minutes a reel of cotton and a thumping heart................

Knew it would work - am a nurse - have had to do this before with patients!!

Thomas1969 · 04/05/2011 07:17

If lubricants don't work then a couple of pairs of pliars or junior hacksaw may be needed. Remember, the more you try the more the area will swell making it more difficult.

AmandaCooper · 04/05/2011 07:25

Ha ha what an exciting thread it was!

BootyMum · 04/05/2011 09:01

Fantastic news - my heart was in my mouth!

This has happened to me before and it's really panic inducing [Fat swollen fingers in pregnancy, baby now 2 months old and I am still too scared to put my wedding ring back on!]

Can you tell me what the cotton trick is? [For future reference Grin]

BaronessVonEvenstar · 04/05/2011 10:20

I got a reel of cotton passed one end under the ring.
The other end I wrapped the other end round my finger up to the knuckle then the end that was passed under the ring I used to start unwinding the thread.
As i unwound it the ring moved up my finger, i gave a few screams as it was sore and cutting my finger BUT it came off in the end lol.
