... a friend request on Facebook? We were close friends as late teens/early twenties, and I haven't seen him since my son (10) was about two. He popped up on my FB thing as has just made friends with a mutual friend.

Thought I'd like to see what he was up to away from the telly stuff - but will I look weird/star struck?

One of my friends on Facebook is semi famous - was in Little Britain and has now been in a few films. I sent him a friend request even though I haven't seen him in a few years - although a good mutual friend sees him and I spoke to him on the phone when he was visiting her so I bit of contact I guess.

Either way I wanted to see how he is doing as a friend not a minor celeb. If that is the case for you too I don't think they will think much of it.

I don't think that's unreasonable. You were close a while back. He wouldn't have a personal Fb page if he didn't want personal friends. You don't sound like a stalker.
